This 1938 BMW 328 Roadster is powered by a 2.0-liter inline-six
engine paired with a manual transmission and is constructed
entirely of prewar BMW components. The car was owned and actively
campaigned for many years by Ernest Weil, with documented
participation in events including the Monterey Historics, Lime Rock
Park, the Colorado Grand, and the Mille Miglia Storica. During
Weil's ownership, the car received carefully executed, fully
reversible modifications to improve reliability and on-track
performance, including custom cast aluminum knock-off wheels,
reinforced rear-end internals, and a fully synchronized gearbox
conversion utilizing a fabricated adapter plate and aircraft-grade
aluminum mounting components without permanent alteration to
original parts. Since 2006, the car has undergone extensive
mechanical restoration, including a complete engine rebuild to
Bristol D2 specification, rebuilt carburetors and transmission,
rebuilt front suspension, replacement wiring harness, new master
cylinder, and comprehensive servicing of the fueling, cooling,
charging, and electrical systems, with mechanical work performed by
Phil Reilly & Co. The car is accompanied by extensive documentation
and a substantial spares package that includes multiple gearboxes,
differential assemblies, wheels, drivetrain components, suspension
parts, and service records supporting continued eligibility for
vintage touring and competition events.
