"Looking deeper into our buyer profile, we find that 25 percent are
prior Jag owners, yet only one in 10 was influenced by the British
heritage. Appearance was the overwhelming purchasing influence, and
much credit is due to Chief Stylist Geoff Lawson for his inspiring
design. Combining marque cues with modern flair, the resulting body
purrs with grace, class, and timeless beauty."Motor Trend, November
1998
For consignment, a 1999 Jaguar XK8 convertible showing 34,834
miles, but the true miles are unknown due to exemption. M/T
continues, "Gorgeous looks, communicative chassis, and pampering
accouterments all make for a rewarding ride. One owner proclaimed
that Jaguar has done a very masterful job of combining the
outstanding qualities of the world's great cars in the XK8."
Exterior
With its rounded aerodynamic looks and a front oval grille that
harkens back to the E-types, it now sports integrated head and tail
lights, and front bumper inserted running lights. Body panels are
all straight and bathed in Topaz Metallic paint from the deep end
of the pool and present while a black canvas is in fine condition
with its glass window. A black pinstripe helps define the
wind-defying shape of this cat, and 17-inch aluminum wheels
emblazoned with the "grinner" in green are on all 4 corners wrapped
in ZR rated tires. You have to get close to see imperfections which
include scratches on the hood, scuffs and scratches on the bumper
covers, and typical chin scrapes.
Interior
Gorgeous charcoal black Connolly leather in fine condition with
minor age wear to the driver's outer bolster adorns the interior
seating consisting of front buckets and a very tight 2+2 rear seat.
Fronting these is a burl dash, which has plenty of knobs and dials
including climate controls, an AM/FM/Cassette stereo, cruise
control, power heated seats with 3 memory positions, power mirrors,
power windows and power locks. A console mounted shift lever rests
in the infamous J-channel and is lined in more glossy wood hugged
by stitched leather. Clean black Wilton carpeting with rubber and
carpeted XK8 mats for the floors, a light colored convertible
headliner, and the fully finished trunk are all in very nice
condition.
Drivetrain
Branded shrouds flank the tubular intake on the clean 4.0 liter V8
under the hood, an engine that is rated at 290 horsepower. It is
backed by a ZFHP24 5-speed automatic which routes power to the rear
axle and 3.06 gears.
Undercarriage
Some typical surface rust and road splatter dress this driver
quality underside but all components are intact and otherwise
clean, free of oil or any kind of sludge build up. Dual exhaust
still runs through original equipment and the two mufflers give way
to chrome tips that fit into the contoured apron out back. Four
wheel power disc brakes are on board and suspension includes
Macpherson struts in front and coil springs in back.
Drive-Ability
Not to make continual cat references, but this car really does purr
like a kitten, the engine runs smooth and quiet and only if you
stand behind the car will expose yourself to some subtle exhaust
burble. The ultra comfortable cockpit is one we could get used to
and certainly enhances our short lap around the test loop where the
car accelerates well and handles even better. All functions in this
well preserved Jag work as they should and it's back to the
showroom for this beauty. While Classic Auto Mall represents that
these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we
cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of
your purchase.
Aside from the beauty and power, the prestige of the Jaguar brand
is undeniable. Here's an opportunity for some open air touring in a
capable and well appointed automobile that strives to do everything
well, and succeeds.
