This 1964 Ford Galaxie 500XL is a factory Q-code example originally
equipped with Ford's 427ci high-performance V8 engine rated at
410hp with a single 4-barrel carburetor. It was assembled at Ford's
Los Angeles, CA, assembly plant and delivered new to the Los
Angeles sales district under DSO 71, with total Q-code Galaxie
production limited to 654 units for the model year. The current
owner acquired the vehicle in 2015, at which time it was fitted
with a rebuilt Holman & Moody 1965-spec side-oiler 427ci V8 engine
featuring a steel crankshaft and Le Mans connecting rods. The
engine is paired with a large-input, large-output Toploader 4-speed
manual transmission and sends power to a correct Ford 9-inch rear
axle with a 3.50 ratio and Traction-Lok differential. A
comprehensive restoration performed by the current owner addressed
the drivetrain, suspension, braking system, engine compartment,
interior and trunk. The suspension components are period-correct,
and the braking system retains the original configuration with
rebuilt components and NOS Ford fade-resistant brake shoes. The
exterior retains an older repaint showing light patina, while the
engine bay, interior and trunk present in factory-correct
condition. The body is rust-free and has been stored indoors in a
climate-controlled environment. Interior equipment includes factory
bucket seats, center console, XL-specific trim and a correct
Parchment interior. The vehicle is offered with supporting
documentation, owner manuals and original sales literature
documenting its configuration and restoration.
