Highlights
THIS... is a 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, finished in Solar Gold with a beige interior.
- This coupe is equipped with the desirable 4-speed manual transmission, and it's fitted with the rare, dealer-installed Macho Edition Package.
- A build sheet details this Firebird's factory equipment. A partial list of notable currently installed equipment reported by the selling dealer includes the Special Performance Package, a hood decal, a sunroof, and air conditioning.
- The second-generation Firebird made its debut for 1970. It wore sharper-looking styling than the original model and it was offered in numerous configurations, including 6- and 8-cylinder power and several trim levels. It was only available as a coupe, though some models were fitted with removable roof panels. The 1979 model year saw the final application of GM's big-block engines.
- Brothers Dennis and Kyle Mecham created the Macho Edition Package and sold it through their family's Pontiac dealership in Glendale, Arizona. The bundle included several mechanical modifications, such as specific carburetor settings and a redesigned exhaust system, as well as several styling updates. About 450 cars were ordered with the Macho Edition Package between the 1977 and 1979 model years.
- Power comes from a 400-cubic-inch V8, rated at about 220 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque in stock form. Due to the dealer-installed upgrades added to this Trans Am, it likely produces more power, but a dyno sheet was not provided to confirm. Output is sent to the rear wheels via a 4-speed manual transmission.
