This 1966 Volkswagen 21-Window Custom Microbus is powered by a
1776cc flat-4 engine paired with a Rancho Pro Street 4-speed manual
transmission. Originally a 13-window model, it underwent a 10-year
refurbishment that included installation of a sunroof, a 21-window
Samba-style conversion, semaphore-style turn indicators and
single-piece rear-hinged cargo doors on both sides. The exterior
was refinished in black and silver and fitted with chrome 17-inch
Turbo Twist-style wheels wearing 205/40 Kumho tires. Additional
exterior features include a retractable black cloth sunroof cover,
front and rear safari windows, eight pop-out side windows, chrome
U.S.-market bumpers with overriders, dual side mirrors, a Mini
Cooper fuel door and an A-1 Performance exhaust system. The
suspension uses a Wagenswest narrowed and adjustable front beam,
and braking is provided by Wilwood red 4-piston calipers over
cross-drilled rotors at each corner. The cabin features SCAT Procar
Elite reclining bucket seats upholstered in gray vinyl with red
Volkswagen embroidery, gray carpeted mats with red binding,
color-coordinated panels and a RetroSound stereo. AutoMeter
instrumentation includes a 160-mph speedometer, 10,000-rpm
tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. Rear access is via dual
single-piece rear-hinged doors, revealing four gray-vinyl bucket
seats, gray carpeting and jail bars in the cargo area.
