The Porsche 993 marked the final generation of the Porsche offering
air-cooled sports cars. Eager to buy one of the last 911s from the
air-cooled modern era, the 993 generation of 911s were incredibly
popular due to their quality, handling, power delivery, comfort,
and overall being able to do everything well. Designed from the
ground up both mechanically and cosmetically, the 993 was
considered to be the best-driving 911 built to date and also
carried a subtle beauty to its design. Unsure of what the future of
the 911 would bring with water cooling, the 993 was believed by
collectors to be the final triumph. Those who were fortunate to
find themselves purchasing one of these final 911s were treated to
one of the greatest driving experiences a Porsche could provide,
with all the refinements and improvements that you'd come to expect
from a company like Porsche.
This 1997 Porsche 911 C2S was produced on February 2nd, 1997 in the
stunning combination of Arena Red Metallic with a Classic Grey
leather interior. Optioned with 18" Technology hollow spoke wheels,
a CD player, the HiFi sound package with speakers, full power
drivers seat, and Porsche Floor mats, with an original MSRP of
$70,034.00. The 911 was first purchased from Stevinson Jaguar -
Porsche in Lakewood, Colorado on May 3rd, 1997 by Geoffrey Bailey
in Golden, Colorado. Bailey was the caretaker for several months
but obviously enjoyed the car, racking up over 2,000 miles in
around 5 months. It was then sold to its next and longest caretaker
and resident of Colorado Springs, Jerry Lubell, in October of 1997
with 2,215 miles on the odometer.
Lubell was an exceptional caretaker of the C2S, evident not only by
his 23-year stewardship of the 911, but also keeping the car
regularly maintained by Prestige Imports, Inc. of Lakewood,
Colorado and European Performance Specialists of Colorado Springs,
Colorado. During this time regular fluid changes and filters were
addressed, but was a reliable vehicle overall. In 2005 Lubell and
his wife entered the car into the 22nd Annual Exotic Sports Car
Show & Concours d'Elegance, taking 2nd in class. The C2S was
entered again in 2007, whereas this time they took 1st in class.
Driving the car sparingly, Lubell accumulated only 12,262 miles by
August of 2014. Also evident of how the C2S was cared for, the
Arena Red metallic paint is all original to the car as well as the
interior.
After 23 years, the car was sold in November of 2020 to its new
caretaker, also located in Colorado. Later the car was acquired by
a northern California collector who kept the car for 3 years before
it arrived at Canepa, with just 15,548 miles on the odometer.
Upon arrival at Canepa, the car was thoroughly checked both
cosmetically and mechanically. In fantastic original condition no
doubt due to its exceptional caretakers, this Arena Red Metallic
C2S is a rarity. Preparing for Canepa's showroom, the 911 went
through the "Canepa Difference" process where the original Ocean
Blue Metallic paint received a foam-pad polish to enhance the
already impressive luster, and all surfaces throughout the car were
cleaned. Mechanically inspected and given a clean bill of health as
expected, with the 911 not needing very much attention due to its
fantastic caretakers and their treatment of the car for the last 28
years. Included with the C2S are a collection of maintenance
records, the Porsche Production Specification certificate, books,
tools, jack, compressor, and spare wheel/tire.
One of the most sought-after air-cooled Porsches today, the 911 C2S
represents the final culmination of air-cooled evolution, with all
the refinements and performance enhancements Porsche could throw at
the naturally aspirated C2S. With a 6-speed manual transmission,
wide Turbo bodywork, and rear wheel drive paired with a fantastic
driving experience, this 911 C2S is ready and is prepared to be
enjoyed to the fullest for the next 30 years.
