Nice older restoration in great condition. Runs and drives
properly. Upgraded 12V electrical system with electric start.
Recent radiator. A fun Model T that can work or play and would make
a great rolling display for a business. This handsome 1923 Ford
Model T depot hack was restored for promotional use by the company
shown on the side panels (which are removable). It was a frequent
attendee in local parades and shows, and generally was used like
all collector vehicles?sparingly and with care. That company was
recently sold to a larger company and they no longer have need for
the handsome pickup, so here it is today. The restoration was
finished probably in the early 2000s, but it was rather well done.
The familiar Model T sheetmetal pieces are in great condition with
traditional black paint, while the depot hack bodywork is wood.
Contrary to popular belief, vehicles like this do not carry factory
bodywork, as all depot hack bodies were aftermarket, so there's
always a little variation. We do not know the maker of this
particular body, but it remains in excellent shape with a dark
finish, no rot, and correct proportions. The vinyl top covering
(called leatherette in period literature) is unmarked, and as we
mentioned, those vinyl side panels are easily removed so you can
provide your own advertising. Some jaunty white pinstripes add a
little contrast, and it's nicely accessorized with step plates,
twin side mirrors for safety, and a single side-mounted spare tire.
The interior, if you can call it that, is as basic as you can get.
A simple vinyl bench seat, rubber floor mat, single door for entry
from the passenger's side, and controls that will be immediately
familiar to any Model T fan. Don't be intimidated, it's actually
quite easy to get the hang of the Model T's quirks, and this one is
especially user-friendly thanks to a powerful 12-volt electrical
system and electric starter. Set the throttle and spark levers,
turn the ignition key to either BAT or MAG (battery ignition or
magneto?they both work), and use your heel to press the starter
button on the floor. With a little tug of the choke, the sturdy
little four-cylinder fires right up and works like a Model T
should. Some bright red accents, particularly in the pickup bed,
add some flavor and there's plenty of room in back for passengers
or cargo. It's not fast, but this Model T is still a bit practical.
The engine is the same 177 cubic inch inline-4 that powered most
Model Ts throughout their 20+ years of production. With proven
reliability, great parts availability, and rugged simplicity, the
Model T remains a great hobby vehicle for enthusiasts of all ages
and skill levels. There's nothing particularly complicated or
challenging about the engine itself, and if you have fuel, air, and
spark, it will run every time. There's evidence of careful
maintenance over the years (a company promoting itself could hardly
have this truck break down at a critical moment, right?) and the
way it runs speaks highly of the guys doing the work. There's a
newer radiator up front, fresh plugs and ignition wires, and a few
other details that ensure this T is ready to run. As we mentioned,
it starts easily and runs great once you master the various levers
and pedals?again, it's not at all difficult. It stays cool even
when it's on parade duty, which can be a challenge for any old car,
and given its modest performance, the 2-wheel brakes are adequate.
There's a show board that comes with this Model T suggesting that
top speed is only 20 MPH, but it'll do a bit more than that without
much stress, so you're not a total rolling road block out on the
streets. The chassis is nicely finished with a few notable upgrades
like the shut-off valves for the fuel system (one by the tank and
one by the carb), a custom battery tray, and a third brake light up
high for today's inattentive drivers. Wood spoke wheels look great
and carry 30x3-1/2 Ward's Riverside tires of indeterminate age.
Extras include a running board luggage rack and some spare parts.
The Model T Ford remains the cornerstone of the old car hobby, and
its continued popularity with enthusiasts young and old are
testament to its enduring appeal. Get a taste of early motoring
with a reasonably-priced Model T that stands out simply because of
its unique look. Call today!Harwood Motors always recommends and
