The C5 Corvette was a game changer because it improved on the
progressively rounder C4 and created a sleeker car with more power,
better fuel economy, and more driver focused ergonomics. Magnetic
Selective Ride Control was standard on 1SC equipped anniversary
editions and most other 2003 models. The successful run of the C5
went from 1997 through the 2004 model year with more than 30,000
units produced each year.
For consignment, a 2003 Corvette Coupe with a title verified 45,382
actual miles. 5,205 Corvettes in 2003 were Torch Red, about half
the number that ended up with Anniversary Red Metallic and a total
production of 35,469 units. This one is equipped with the Preferred
Equipment Package that includes headsup display, magnetic ride
control, and other options.
Exterior
The wide and low front end with its hidden headlights and narrow
horizontal grille is sporty and aggressive. There is no mistaking
this look when one is coming up behind you on the highway. The side
gills set the stage for body contours that extend past the door,
and the chrome 5 spoke wheels are in excellent condition with
17-inchers up front and 18-inchers in back. Side mirrors and the
flush door handles are body colored and the rear valance, topped by
those epic four tail lights, is wide and aggressive and the
Corvette stamping is almost ghost like. The air foils and quad
tailpipes at the bottom create a stunning visual and auditory
delight, while the targa top blends in almost seamlessly and color
matched to the car, with a smoked glass optional top stowed under
the hatch. Imperfections are limited to a chip on the rocker panel,
touched up chips elsewhere, random scratches, and scuffs on apron
and chin.
Interior
The molded plastic doors are fully Ebony with controls canted to
fit the wrist. Black leather sport bucket seats are in super shape
with straight stitched inserts and firm side bolstering and noted
is some slight patina to the driver's seat and fraying of the
embroidered Corvette on the back. Our black steering wheel is in
very nice condition while the standard gauge package is clear and
easy to read with no unnecessary extras. The standard
AM/FM/multi-CD radio is in the center stack along with the heat and
AC controls, all housed in molded black plastic. The thumb actuated
shifter is situated in a boot of black leather next to an active
handling button while black low pile carpet covers the floor and
continues in the rear cargo area. We note some depressions in the
foam headliner but overall this is a clean interior.
Drivetrain
Power comes from a 5.7 liter LS1 V8 rated at 345 horsepower
presenting cleanly under the hood. This potent mill is tied to a
4L60E 4-speed automatic transmission that routes power to the rear
axle with 3.15 gears and Positraction.
Undercarriage
Clean and unremarkable underneath, here's where we find four wheel
power disc brakes, dual exhaust running through original equipment,
and double wishbone cast aluminum upper and lower control arms,
transverse mounted composite leaf springs, and monotube shock
absorbers make up the suspension for the front and the rear.
Drive-Ability
No surprises here, just a nice stock C5 doing its thing. That means
fantastic power, stupendous handling, and the racecar feel that
comes at a price unmatched in the performance car world. All
functions on this dapper Duntov operate as they should and we
return it to the heated confines of our showroom. While Classic
Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time
of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be
working at the time of your purchase.
As much as we love modified vehicles, there's something to be said
about those kept clean and stock, like this '03 Corvette. Nice C5's
tend to sell here at Classic Auto Mall so we would encourage quick
action on this one. Your spouse will understand why the Camry has
been kicked out of the garage!
