*1957 MG MGA Coupe*The MGA marked a shift in the MG brand's vehicle
building - gone were the pre-war style pontoon fenders and thin
bicycle-like wheels and in their place, a gorgeous, flowing body
that could have come out of one of Italy's top styling houses.
Produced between 1955 and 1962, the MGA was primarily designed as
an open top roadster, but, a coupe variant was produced - albeit in
smaller numbers. This 1957 MG MGA Coupe is finished in a shade of
paint from the Ford catalog called Laser Red, and benefits from
long-term single family ownership, staying under the care of the
same family since 1977. This car has been restored twice under
current ownership - once immediately after purchase in 1978, and a
second time in 1999 - which still shows very nicely. The car sits
on a set of 72-spoke chrome wire wheels, which are wrapped in
radial tires, making for a very classic English sports car look. The
interior is wrapped in beautiful saddle leather upholstery on the
seats and door cards. In front of the driver sits a simple
dashboard, with primary gauges viewed through a large four-spoke
steering wheel on an adjustable column. Although this style of car
is notoriously sparsely equipped, this MGA was ordered with a
heater for the cabin which is a welcome addition on a cool morning
drive to your favorite car show.Powering this MGA is a 1.5-liter
inline 4 cylinder engine, with a pair of SU carburetors on the
side. Part of the long used BMC "B-Series" engine family, this
powerplant is known for being quite stout, and having great parts
support even in the United States. From the factory, power was
rated at 72hp, which is then run through a 4-speed manual gearbox
for maximum driving enjoyment. Under the car, the MGA features
independent front suspension with coil springs, and a live axle at
the rear and to slow down, the car uses Dunlop hydraulic drum
brakes. In contrast to many sports cars of the era, the MGA
utilizes rack and pinion steering as opposed to the more
conventional steering box of the era, making for livelier and more
predictable steering with fewer dead spots in the wheel.MG was a
company that built their cars with a focus on driving enjoyment as
opposed to straight line speed or magazine testing numbers. They
may not be the fastest, but it's hard to have much more fun behind
the wheel, as you row through the gears in this lightweight sports
coupe. This MGA is a unique opportunity to acquire a car with
significant ownership provenance that is ready to be driven and
enjoyed today!*Key Features* * Single Family Ownership Since 1977 *
