This 1933 Willys custom coupe, known as "Black Widow," is powered
by a 354ci Chrysler HEMI V8 engine crowned with a quartet of
Inglese side-draft carburetors and mated to a GM 700R4 automatic
overdrive transmission. Crafted by Denny Terzich and the team at
ProRides in Warrendale, PA, the car was the subject of a full
multi-page feature in the April 2009 issue of Street Rodder
magazine and earned a Goodguys Pro's Pick at its debut in Columbus,
OH. The body began as a fiberglass Willys-style shell, but nearly
every square inch was reshaped and reproportioned to achieve its
current silhouette. The cab was stretched 5 inches, the doors
lengthened 6 inches, and the A-pillars were leaned back while the
B-pillars were angled forward to create a more aggressive posture.
The hood was extended 5 inches to balance the longer cabin, the
body was pie-cut 1.5 inches to reduce visual height and the rear
fender openings were raised in conjunction with a widened rear
section that gives the coupe a more planted, powerful appearance.
The nose was widened 2 inches to match the revised proportions.
Custom hood sides, front aprons and a shortened grille packed with
handmade stainless bars complete the refined exterior. After
extensive blocking and finish work, the car was painted in PPG
black that inspired the car's "Black Widow" name. Underneath, the
car rides on a custom Hi-Boy-style chassis originally prepared by
Dennis Taylor Reproductions and further refined by ProRides.
Steering is managed through a Corvair steering box paired with a
Speedway drop and Borgeson joints. The stance of the coupe is
defined by Radir 12-spoke 18x3 wheels wrapped in slim
motorcycle-style rubber, while the rear is anchored by massive
20x12 Billet Specialties wheels wearing 31x16R20 Mickey Thompson
radials. The interior features a TEA's Design bench seat trimmed in
red pleated leather, complemented by matching door panels and plush
red wool carpeting. The custom dash houses a Billet Specialties
insert filled with AutoMeter gauges, framed by a Billet Specialties
Outlaw steering wheel and a set of drilled pedals. Electric Life
power windows employ neatly integrated switchgear. **TITLED AS 1933
