Mercedes-Benz flagship model Benefits from a bare metal respray and
mechanical freshening by marque experts Retained by the same family
between 1978 and 2020 Accompanied by its original data card,
owner's manuals, and a toll roll A high-performance luxury sedan
with an impressive V-8 power plant The history of this
Mercedes-Benz 450 SEL 6.9 begins when the long-term owner saw an ad
for it in the Wall Street Journal. He would purchase this 450 SEL
6.9 on April 7th, 1978, from Cyrus Mayer of Mayer Manufacturing
Corp in Chicago. Mr. Mayer had acquired this example new from
Mercedes-Benz AutoHafen Inc., on 209th Street in Chicago Heights,
Illinois. Remaining in the same family for over 40 years, along
with his other Mercedes-Benz automobiles, the current owner would
welcome this example into his own Mercedes collection as part of a
package deal in 2020. Documented by its original data card, which
is still affixed in the owner's manual, the current owner would
entrust Huber Restorations of Tulsa, Oklahoma, for a bare metal
respray in its factory original colors of Astral Silver Metallic.
During this time, the leather seats were also reupholstered with
Mercedes-Benz covers in its original color of 202 Blue. After
which, this 450 SEL 6.9 was brought to Mercedes specialist Autohaus
of Tulsa for a mechanical freshening. Today, this example shows
just 78,861 miles on the odometer, which the owner believes to be
actual. The top-of-the-line model in its day, this 450 SEL 6.9 is
loaded with factory features such as power steering, power brakes,
power windows, an automatic power antenna, a central locking
system, climate control air-conditioning, a Becker Mexico cassette
radio, and a remarkable self-leveling suspension system. It truly
is '70s luxury on wheels at its finest. Power is supplied from the
impressive and powerful 6.9-litre V-8 engine that produces 250
horsepower and is backed by a smooth automatic transmission. Like
the rest of the car, the engine bay is well-detailed and presents
remarkably well. Accompanying this 450 SEL 6.9 is the original data
card, owner's manuals, and a toll roll. A joy to drive and admire,
this flagship 6.9-litre V-8 Mercedes-Benz that benefits from more
than 40 years of single-family ownership would be a wonderful
addition for any collector or enthusiast looking to enjoy the very
best of the 1970s. This 1977 Mercedes-Benz 450 SEL 6.9 is located
in Auburn, Indiana, which is centrally located and within a few
hours by car from Indianapolis, Indiana; Detroit, Michigan;
Chicago, Illinois; and Cleveland, Ohio.
