Description:
This 1951 Henry J Deluxe is powered by a 161ci inline-six that
drives the rear wheels through a column-shifted three-speed manual
transmission. Finished in Satin Blue, the car features front and
rear bench seats trimmed in alligator-print brown vinyl upholstery
with checkered inserts. Equipment includes body-color 15? steel
wheels, chrome wheel covers, whitewall tires, drum brakes, tail
fins, a trunk lid, dual side mirrors, and a spotlight as well as
folding seatbacks, front lap belts, and an AM radio.
Interior:
The front and rear bench seats are trimmed in alligator-print brown
vinyl with checkered brown and tan inserts. The door panels and
front armrests feature matching alligator-print upholstery and are
accented by a body-color steel dashboard. The white two-spoke
steering wheel features a chrome horn ring and sits ahead of a
chrome-trimmed instrument cluster that houses a 100-mph
speedometer, readouts for fuel level and coolant temperature, and
warning lights for amperage and oil pressure.
Exterior:
Introduced in September 1950, the compact Henry J was developed and
built by the Kaiser-Frazer Corporation, with a design from American
Metal Products that was later revised by Howard "Dutch" Darrin. The
steel bodywork of this 1951 example is finished in Satin Blue and
is accompanied by a slanted front fascia and a grille bar
punctuated by parking lights. Body-color 15? steel wheels are
fitted with chrome Kaiser-branded covers and are mounted with
Firestone Deluxe Champion whitewall tires. The Henry J was equipped
with independent front suspension and parallel rear leaf springs,
and stopping is accomplished via front and rear drum brakes.
Drivetrain:
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a column-shifted
three-speed manual transmission. The 161ci L-head Supersonic
straight-six is equipped with a single-barrel Carter carburetor, a
Kaiser Supersonic cylinder head, a cast-iron block, and solid
lifters.
