Powered by a 327ci 150hp side-valve inline 8-cylinder engine paired
with a 3-speed manual transmission, this 1933 Packard 1004 Super
Eight Coupe Roadster rides on a 142-inch wheelbase with solid
axles, semi-elliptic leaf springs and four-wheel vacuum-assisted
mechanical brakes. Chassis No. 750980 is the 98th example built and
was delivered new by Packard distributor Robert B. Parker of
Philadelphia on August 17, 1933. It was purchased in 1991 as a
partially disassembled project and underwent a comprehensive
restoration emphasizing originality and precision. The body was
stripped, repaired and refinished in single-stage PPG Opal paint
that transitions from white to gray depending on light, accented by
red pinstriping and a red chassis. The red leather interior
includes details such as fold-out rumble seat arm pads, leather
upholstery on the golf bag door and wood-grained trim restored by
specialist Craig Clemins. Restoration accuracy has been extended to
the engine and accessories, including refinished porcelain
manifolds and authentic crackle finishes on electrical components.
Exterior features include chromed wire wheels with whitewall tires,
Pilot-Ray fog lights, dual side-mounted spares with metal covers,
Packard Twelve bumpers, solar headlamps and a "Daphne at the Well"
radiator mascot. Completed in early 2008, the restoration earned an
AACA First Junior at San Diego in 2008, a First Senior at Santa
Rosa in 2011 and multiple concours honors, including Best of Show
at the 2008 Niello Concours. It also received the 2009 Joseph
Parkin Award, given to only 25 restorations annually. Having
covered only 300 miles since completion, this award-winning Packard
remains in exceptional condition with a recent service, including a
rebuilt starter and steering box.
