1969 Volkswagen Kubelwagen Type 82 in Scottsdale, Arizona
This 1969 Volkswagen Type 82 Kubelwagen re-creation is powered by a
new 1776cc EMPI crate engine installed in 2023, featuring an Engle
W100 camshaft, German Solex 34PICT-3 carburetor restored by
Volksbitz USA, Kuhltek centrifugal-advance steel-base distributor,
Bosch 12-volt generator and regulator, and 36hp-style doghouse fan
shroud with upgraded oil cooler. It is equipped with new disc
brakes on all four corners, new bearings and 205/75/15 road tires,
including the spare. This Volkswagen is finished in Afrika Korps
Sand with Luftwaffe and Berlin Bear insignia representing the 27th
Fighter Wing stationed in North Africa in 1942. Features include a
removable roll bar, side curtain slide-in windows, a heavy-duty tow
hitch, wooden duck boards, a water can holder, a trafficator and
holder, antler brackets, a fake semaphore with mirror mounts, a
jerrycan with holder, a shovel and bracket, a spotlight with cover
and blackout headlight covers. The Kubel body is stronger and more
reliable than the original design, with an all-new chassis,
suspension and floor pans. It was built as an homage to the
original World War II-era German military vehicle designed by
Ferdinand Porsche, with 50,436 units produced from 1940-45.
