"In 1983, the German motorcycle maker released the BMW 100 RS, a
touring oriented version of the standard model, which debuted in
1976 and continued production until 1984. Between 1976 and 1984,
the maker produced over 33,600 RS motorcycles."

For consignment, a 1983 BMW 100RS motorcycle showing 10,991 miles,
but the true miles are unknown. According to our consignor, that's
110,991 but that number could not be verified either. It has been
well maintained and presents in very nice external condition, but
as this bike just came out of long term storage, it will need some
going through before you hit the road.
Exterior
Polaris Graphite colors the aerodynamic panels of this early sport
touring bike, including the windswept fairing that cascades down to
guide the air around the rider's legs. The gas tank and rear apron
are also gray and both the BMW logo, and it's under a parcel rack
in back. Front amber marker lights are flush embedded in the
fairing while the rears cap the end of stalks to either side of the
tail light. A multi spoke 19-inch wheel resides in front with an
18-inch unit in back and chrome exhaust is mounted at an upward
angle. The steeply angled windscreen is flanked by sport style
mirrors in black which matches the color of the front forks, rear
shocks, and rear fender. The seat is also black with stitch
patterns in the grain vinyl. We note a scuff and some missing paint
on the fairing near the headlight and a scuff on the gas tank.
Functionality
Ignition, ammeter and analog clock are mounted on the fairing while
a speedometer and adjacent tachometer flank indicator lights which
contour to the circular edges of the gauges. The sport bike
handlebar brings grips in tight and each is accompanied by thumb
controls with different colors and shapes. Our rubber grips show
some fading but are in great shape. Foot pegs are provided to rider
and passenger.
Drivetrain
The bike is equipped with a 980cc boxer 2 engine that produces 70
horsepower and is fueled by two Bing 1-barrel carburetors. The
transmission is a shaft drive 5-speed manual and brakes are on
board as front disc and rear drum. Suspension is home to the only
modification on the bike, Fox shocks with a telescopic fork in
front and long swing arms with adjustable struts behind. Dual
exhaust travels close to the bike and helps retain an aerodynamic
profile.
Well loved, this remains a stunning, streamlined bike with the
iconic marque and while there's some slight patina throughout, it
is in excellent condition for its age and a great addition to a BMW
collection, general bike collection, or as your first go around
with a BMW RS!
