Through the evolution of the 911, the cars found themselves
continually added to and some believed that the purity of the 911
visually had been diluted. In 1993, Porsche introduced the Type
993: a return to basic principles, being recognizably a 911 but one
in which all functions had been harmoniously integrated in a truly
outstanding example of modern automotive styling. Then in 1995,
Porsche introduced what would be the most powerful naturally
aspirated 993 ever produced, a race-inspired 911 with handling to
match the raw power: the Porsche 993 Carrera RS.
Armed with an upgraded 300 horsepower 3.8 liter flat six mated to a
6-speed manual transmission, the Carrera RS was equipped with
track-oriented suspension that gave an unparalleled driving
experience, making the car an instant hit and driver's delight.
Limited to only 1,014 examples and never offered to the U.S. for
sale, the 993 Carrera RSs are now a collector's delight and are the
last air-cooled Carrera RSs.
This 1995 Porsche 911 Carrera RS was produced on July 24th, 1995 in
Stuttgart, Germany and was destined for Japan. Standard features
included a limited slip differential, Speedline 2-piece wheels,
thinner glass, reduced sound insulation for weight reduction, and
more. Optioned in Polar Silver metallic paint with a black leather
interior with sports seats, the car was specified with the
following factory options:
197 - Stronger Battery (higher amperage)
451 - Without preparation for radio
471 - Carrera RS Clubsport rear spoiler
562 - Front airbags
573 - Air conditioning
651 - Electric windows
According to records it was purchased by its first owner in Japan
on September 22nd, 1995. Subsequent owners kept the car in near
concourse condition both cosmetically and mechanically, where you
would think this car with 24,432 original miles presents as an
example that might have a fourth of those miles. The Carrera RS is
completely wrapped in paint protection film, protecting the
original Polar Silver metallic paintwork.
Upon arriving at Canepa the Carrera RS was thoroughly looked over
both mechanically and cosmetically. Evident that the previous
caretakers took exceptional care of the car, everything about the
911 presented as if it was a low-mileage example. The interior
remains in original like-new condition. The paint retained the
luster of what cars look like on showroom floors, and mechanically
the RS drove exactly how it should. Nonetheless, the car was
entered in the "Canepa Difference" process to confirm all of these
characteristics in a more in-depth manner. The RS was treated to a
full concours-level detailing that included washing the underside
by hand. Next, Canepa's technicians went through the vehicle to
ensure that every single mechanical system was noted and addressed
if necessary, culminating in a road test by Bruce Canepa. "This 993
Carrera RS has the appearance of a car with 2,500 miles from top to
bottom. These last air-cooled RS models are unbelievable as to how
much fun they are to drive." - Bruce Canepa
Passing with flying colors, this 1996 Porsche 911 Carrera RS is
ready for its next caretaker, equally capable of carving up the
best backroads, or carving up the competition at a concours
d'elegance event.
