The 1969 Mercury Cougar XR7 is powered by a 428ci Cobra Jet engine
paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. It was originally
ordered as a Ford Home Office Reserve vehicle, documented by both a
Marti Report and original Ford invoices. Its factory equipment
includes 3.50 posi-traction, power steering and power front disc
brakes, along with power ventilation, which was ordered on only 850
cars. The chassis and body received a comprehensive two-year
restoration, completed with guidance from Bob Perkins of Wisconsin,
and returned to factory-correct specifications with a
laser-straight body. Exterior features include its original
understated appearance without 428 Cobra Jet markings, retaining
the intended sleeper configuration. Interior components include the
XR7 leather upholstery, console, tinted glass and AM/FM stereo, all
restored to factory-correct standards. This vehicle represents one
of 32 Q-Code 4-speed Cougars built and was used as a 428 CJ test
car during its Home Office Reserve service, carrying extensive
documentation supporting its configuration and history.
