This 1978 Chevrolet Corvette Indy pace car is No. 61 of 6,502
produced and is powered by its original L48 350ci Chevrolet V8
engine producing 185hp, mated to a 3-speed Turbo 350 automatic
transmission. It was produced with the performance FE7 Gymkhana
Suspension and K30 Cruise Master speed control options. Pace cars
came standard with T-Tops and bags, power windows, power locks,
power antenna, power steering, power brakes, air conditioning, tilt
steering, clock, tachometer, silver interior and correct
reproduction Goodyear GT radial tires on original rims. It has been
upgraded to an AM/FM 8-track stereo radio. It also features an Al
Knoch carpet kit with added sound-deadening and a Corvette Central
exhaust system. The pace car option had its own paint scheme that
consisted of a two-tone paint with a red stripe. Chevrolet only
built one for each Corvette dealer at the time. This pace car was
sold new at Jerry's Chevrolet in Fort Worth, TX. It has had the
same private Arizona owner for 19 years.
