Finished in Black with a Green interior. Restored in the mid-2000s
by a local Porsche collector from Orange County, California. East
Auto Body did the paint and bodywork, taken down to bare metal, and
Autos International did the interior. During the restoration, this
rust-free California 356 was converted into a GT Carrera Outlaw.
Options include: GT aluminum bumper deco trim, bumperette delete,
side deco delete, Marchal driving lights, Magnesium offset 5.5"
wheels with Pirelli 185 65 15 tires and spacers, GT louvers on the
rear deck lid, chrome emblems, original sun visors, Aero mirror,
radio delete plate, Simpson style racing seat belts, removable roll
bar, custom-built sport exhaust system, GT plexiglass side windows,
Speedster seats with GT seat frames, original VDM steering wheel,
and all of the gauges were meticulously restored by North Hollywood
Speedometer.
The previous owner/builder purchased this 356 in the mid-2000s and,
over a 3-year period, restored it from the ground up. Being a
California 356 for several decades, the floor pans and battery box
are very solid and well-preserved. The GT Coupe has been driven to
and shown at the North meets the South in Central California
multiple times, and also shown at the Southern California Porsche
356 Club concour events, and has won several awards. European
Collectibles has sold this 356 several times over the years to
local Porsche enthusiasts in California, who have driven it and
have enjoyed every minute of the drive!
Mechanically, the 912 engine was custom-built to 1900cc, Scat
crank, Cunningham rods, JE pistons, 10.3:1 compression, twin-plug,
the cylinder heads' ports have been cleaned, polished, and
machined, HD valve springs, Elgin cam, full-flow oil system with
front-mounted coolers, and piston squirters with approximately 130
horsepower. The 716 transmission was rebuilt in 2021, it was
completely disassembled, cleaned, and inspected. The stock gear
ratio was used, all new bearings and four new synchros were
installed, as well as a reseal. The suspension includes Koni
Classic adjustable shocks front and rear, Spindle gussets, front
arm gussets, heavy-duty tie rods, a 19mm front adjustable sway bar,
red Polly spring plate bushings, a rear compensator bar, and a drum
braking system, including custom GT-style air intake backing plates
with reinforced control arms. The electrical system was also
upgraded to a 12 Volt system.
A very enjoyable 356 to drive with a very powerful 1900cc engine
that accelerates quickly. The exhaust tone sounds great, the
transmission shifts smoothly, and the four-wheel drum brakes stop
this 356 straight. It is very rare to find a 356 T1 Coupe set up to
GT specifications that has been restored to such high standards-a
rare opportunity to acquire a magnificent 356A Outlaw Coupe.
