When it debuted in 1984, the fourth-generation Corvette was nothing
short of revolutionary. From 1984 to 1996, spanning 12 years, many
of these Corvettes were made in different trims and specs. But
you'll be hard-pressed to find an example quite like the 1990
Chevrolet Corvette Convertible we have for you today. With just
75,605 actual miles on its odometer, and sporting its (believed)
original Dark Red Metallic paint, along with its factory-issued
accessory hard top, this two-owner car is one of a kind.
Inside, we find an original-looking black leather interior.
Featuring a pair of plush and supportive power bucket seats
separated by a full-length black center console, complete with dual
cupholders and a storage compartment armrest. A padded four-spoke
wheel sits in front of the signature C4 gauge cluster, centered
around a digital speedometer, with an analog 6,000-rpm tachometer
and four auxiliary gauges flanking it on either side. The orange
backlit digital theme continues with the HVAC controls and the
AM/FM/CD/Cassette head unit, both of which feature easy-to-use push
buttons. Power locks, windows, and mirrors, combined with air
conditioning and cruise control, offer a range of modern amenities
for the time period.
Under its front-hinged hood, we find a 5.7-liter L98 V-8 engine.
With its stout iron block and lightweight cylinder heads, the L98
uses Tuned Port Injection in conjunction with an in-tank fuel pump
to help this Corvette generate 245 horsepower and 345 pound-feet of
torque when it rolled off the assembly line. Power is routed
through a 700R4 four-speed automatic transmission before heading
out to the rear, where it transfers those ponies to the pavement
via 17-inch sawblade-style factory wheels shod in wide 275/40R-17
tires.
