This 1968 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 RS is beautifully presented in its
factory-correct Matador Red finish over a red deluxe interior,
complemented by its original-style Parchment vinyl roof. This
example retains exceptional authenticity, including the original
body Broadcast Sheet, verified and certified by Jerry MacNeish, one
of the foremost authorities on first-generation Camaros.
Underneath, the car is equipped with its correct 4.56 posi-traction
rear end, power steering, tinted glass, deluxe seat belts, center
console, rear speaker and D80 spoiler package. The original sheet
metal remains intact, with the factory quarter-panel stampings
still visible from inside the trunk. Originally raced during its
first decade, the car was later restored. Inside, it features its
factory-original 6,000-rpm redline tachometer, a component
exclusive to the 1968 Z/28 and L78 375hp cars. The glove box door
retains the original factory tire-inflation decal, denoting the use
of 15-inch wheels - another correct and rare surviving detail. A
fully restored, date-correct Air Injector Reactor (A.I.R.) system
has been installed. Additional documentation of authenticity
includes the original VIN stamping in the cowl area and the factory
Muncie speedometer cable hole in the firewall. The original brake
booster, dated 102 (April 11), has been rebuilt and replated.
Included with the car is the OD radiator, dated C19 68, as well as
the correct backup-lamp harness plug in the trunk and the firewall
configuration confirming its legitimacy as a factory Rally Sport.
The car also retains its original BW-coded 12-bolt posi-traction
rear axle, featuring a casting date of C28 8 and an assembly code
of 0425. Although the original engine was replaced less than a year
after assembly, the car now carries a correct 1969 302ci "CE"
warranty replacement block, a four-bolt-main casting dated D18 9.
Power is delivered through a Muncie M21 4-speed manual
transmission, and the car runs and drives impressively. Additional
period options include front and rear bumper guards and wire wheel
hubcaps, rounding out a well-documented Z/28 RS with numerous
factory-correct components. 62,503 miles (title reads exempt).
