This 1968 Shelby GT500 is powered by a factory 428ci 4-barrel V8
engine paired with a C6 SelectShift automatic transmission and
equipped with the Cobra-style shifter, with the car documented by
its Deluxe Marti Report and included in the Shelby Registry. The
exhaust system follows the original GT500 layout with dual outlets
exiting through the rear valance, consistent with 1968 production
specifications. The chassis retains the original-style front
coil-spring and rear leaf-spring suspension system and factory-type
components such as control arms, bushings and mounting hardware
were restored or replaced to meet factory configuration. Stopping
is handled by power front disc brakes with rear drums as originally
equipped, and the car includes factory power steering and the
optional tilt-away steering column. The exterior is finished in its
factory-correct Candy Apple Red and fitted with Shelby 10-spoke
wheels, fog lamps, fiberglass body components and wheel lip
moldings consistent with 1968 GT500 production. Exterior trim,
badging, glass and lighting components follow the original
specifications included on its Marti Report, and the car was sold
new at Marvin Tonkin Ford in Portland, OR. The interior is trimmed
in its factory Saddle configuration and includes the Interior Decor
Group, sport deck rear seat, tachometer, trip odometer, AM
push-button radio, shoulder harnesses and visibility group items.
The dash carries a Shelby autograph applied in 2004, and the cabin
retains factory-correct upholstery patterns, hardware, switchgear
and instrumentation. Additional factory options include the extra
cooling package, wheel lip moldings, tilt-away steering and other
equipment documented in the Marti Report. This GT500 was produced
on December 21, 1967, five days ahead of schedule, and its
restoration and documentation collectively align the vehicle with
its factory-delivered configuration.
