Other than maybe the Batmobile, no car is more Hollywood famous
than this 1981 DeLorean DMC-12. With an odometer reading that will
make you exclaim, "Great Scott," this stainless steel beauty has
just 6,746 believed actual miles on its odometer. With its
signature gullwing doors, dual door windows, and louvered rear
hatch, there isn't anything this side of a Bugatti that will get
you more waves and thumbs up than a DeLorean in excellent
condition.
Inside, we find a super-clean, comfortable grey-leather interior. A
big center console separates a pair of plush bucket seats, while a
sizable storage area sits in back. A three-spoke steering wheel
sits ahead of an analog gauge cluster featuring an 8,000-rpm
tachometer and an 85-mph speedometer. Power windows, locks, and
mirrors, along with air conditioning, offer up all the modern
amenities anyone could ask for in the early 1980s. Simple HVAC
controls, an AM/FM stereo, and an angled glove box will make you
feel like you've gone back in time.
Pop the rear hatch, and you'll find a 2.8-liter naturally-aspirated
SOHC V-6 engine. The longitudinally-mounted rear engine is
comprised of an aluminum block and heads that use mechanical fuel
injection to pump out 130 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque
when it rolled off the assembly line more than 40 years ago. That
power is funneled through a tried-and-true five-speed manual
transaxle before being sent to the rear wheels.
