Go big or go home! From its high-voltage exterior to its pristine
interior, to the ultra-potent big block lurking under its cowl
hood, this 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle SS was clearly configured to
make a big impact, and suffice to say, those efforts certainly
succeeded. Its vibrant red paint retains an excellent gloss, and as
you take a closer look, you'll see that its assortment of chrome
exterior trim really presents nicely, as well. The cowl hood serves
notice that there's some serious power onboard this classic, and
the added set of show-stopping 15" chrome U.S. mag wheels
accentuate its stance perfectly.
The black vinyl interior has been restored to exacting standards
and retains a convincingly vintage appearance, with some top-tier
enhancements added to the mix. Both the front buckets and rear
bench seat are in great shape, looming over carpeting that's in
matching condition. Further forward, the instrument cluster harbors
a collection of clear, easily readable gauges joined by an
AutoMeter tachometer on the steering column, as well as a trio of
SunPro gauges mounted just below to monitor voltage, temperature,
and oil pressure. With a Vintage Air climate control system on
board and operating in top form, you'll be able to enjoy this ride
in comfort year-round, and a retro-look AM/FM stereo with an
auxiliary port is at the center of the dash to offer plenty of
audio options.
As you raise the cowl hood, the first thing you'll likely notice is
the sheer size of the big block V8 lurking at the center of the
compartment. It began life with an already expansive 502 cubic
inches and was bored out to 540 cubic inches from there. Built by a
local shop with only top-quality components, the engine is fed by a
four-barrel QFT carburetor sitting on top of an Edelbrock Victor
Jr. manifold and produces a staggering 730+ horsepower. The
ultra-potent V8 exhales into a pair of long tube headers leading to
Magnaflow mufflers that produce a deep, rumbling tone with a tap on
the accelerator pedal, and teams with a 5-speed manual Tremec TKX
transmission that's geared to take full advantage of its unusually
high output. An upgraded suspension at both ends equips this
outstanding classic with enhanced handling and agility around
corners, and since its power brakes have been converted to a
hydroboost system, its stopping ability is downright impressive, as
well.
