The 1989 Pontiac 20th Anniversary Turbo Trans Am Indianapolis 500
Pace Car Special Edition was the first car to pace the race in
stock form, with no modifications other than safety lights. It was
the fastest U.S. production car in the 1980s. There were 1,555 of
the 20th Anniversary Edition produced, and this is No. 1,221 in the
production sequence. This example has been stored in a
climate-controlled environment throughout its life. It is powered
by a factory 3.8-liter turbocharged V6 engine. The Pontiac-modified
engines in the TTA came from the factory with a clean-sheet,
modified cylinder head to fit under the TTA hood for improved
airflow, improved pistons, an air-to-air intercooler and a
cross-drilled crankshaft. The reshaped combustion chamber and
relocated exhaust ports for improved airflow make a difference in
the performance of this exhaust-driven turbocharger. The heavy-duty
transmission and shift controls were factory-upgraded, with the
whole powertrain factory-tuned for the extra horsepower this car
produces. It is an all-original car with the specially marked
"Trans Am" original spark plug wires, a leather interior, larger
brakes, upgraded suspension components, special baffled fuel tank
designed for racing applications, Lexan T-Tops, factory T-Top
storage bag and a laminated copy of the original Window Sticker
(12x10 inches) plus a new PAS reproduction (8.5x11 inches) showing
delivery to The Rodgers Pontiac Co. dealership at in Dayton, OH.
Pontiac press releases are also included. All filters and fluids
have 22 miles and seven years (June 2019) on them. 2,188 miles
(title reads exempt). CARFAX shows General Motors manufacturer
safety recall issued on 06/01/1990: Seatbelt buckles.
