The 1929 Rolls-Royce Phantom II Shooting Brake by Radford, built on
chassis No. 41WJ, was originally completed as a limousine, per the
Rolls-Royce build records included with the car. It retains
comprehensive documentation, factory records, restoration receipts
and correspondence outlining its complete history from new. Sold
new to Parisian owner Jean Groult, the car was later owned by an
English sportsman in the 1940s, who commissioned Harold Radford
Coach Builders Limited to restyle the car with period Shooting
Brake coachwork. The vehicle subsequently passed into the ownership
of Iranian industrialist M. R. Rafatjah, who also had ties to the
Royal Garage, and was later shipped to Great Britain during the
Iranian revolution, remaining there during and after its
restoration as Rafatjah relocated to California. The restoration
began under C&L Restorations of Cheshire, England, and was
completed by David Scott-Moncrieff and Son, Limited of Leek,
England, as a nut-and-bolt restoration finished approximately 45
years ago at an estimated combined cost of £50,000, equivalent to
roughly $500,000 today. Records indicate Rafatjah later adopted the
surname DuPont, with correspondence addressed to both names at the
same residence, and he is believed to have retained the car until
his passing in 2023. The vehicle has since been fully serviced and
is offered with two complete sets of tires including the whitewall
set currently installed and a new blackwall set. Additional
documentation confirms the car's participation in various extended
touring events, and it was driven as recently as December 2025 for
photography.
