This 1962 Chrysler Imperial Crown convertible is powered by a 413ci
"wedge" V8 engine rated at 340hp, paired with a 3-speed TorqueFlite
automatic transmission. It rides on a 129-inch wheelbase and the
chassis recently detailed and painted, following a full mechanical
and functional refurbishment. The exhaust, suspension and chassis
components were addressed during its restoration work by the
Charles Mallory Collection, and every accessory and operational
system was confirmed functional, including the Guide-Matic
headlight dimmer, power convertible top and power antenna. Braking
equipment and factory running gear remain in excellent operating
condition. Originating as one of 554 built, this example spent
nearly its entire life in Portland, OR, and a Portland State
University faculty parking permit from 1972-73 remains affixed to
the windshield. It later received a body-off restoration there
before being acquired by an Imperial collector in Alberta, Canada,
in 2006. It was subsequently purchased by Mallory in Connecticut,
where it was comprehensively gone through at a large restoration
facility to bring it back to show condition. The exterior features
its Oyster White finish, a new correct black vinyl convertible top,
well-preserved chrome and stainless trim, Imperial wheel covers and
new wide whitewall radial tires. The interior is finished in red
leather trim with chrome accents, a mid-century-designed dash, a
squared steering wheel with fully functioning electro-luminescent
lighting, matching red carpeting and the correct-style boot. The
engine compartment is clean and well detailed, and the overall
presentation reflects tens of thousands of dollars spent by current
ownership to return the car to the frame-off caliber achieved at
its earlier restoration.
