Southern California 356, finished in the original factory color
combination of Silver Metallic with Red upholstery. This 356 was
special-ordered with a 1600 Super engine, confirmed by the factory
build sheet.
The paintwork presents well with patina, complemented by brightwork
and original glass. The interior retains the original VDM steering
wheel, VDO instrumentation, radio delete plate, and wooden shift
knob. Upholstery has been retrimmed in red vinyl with Charcoal
German square-weave carpets. Chrome-slotted 4.5" x 15" wheels are
mounted to Vredestein Sprint Classic 165 HR15 tires (dated-coded
2025). The undercarriage is solid, rust-free, and fully
detailed.
The first owner was Captain Schmidt, who took delivery through the
Porsche's Tourist Delivery program via AFN Ltd. in England, on
April 27, 1961. The 356 was later exported by Schmidt to Van Nuys,
California. A complete mechanical restoration was done in 2011,
including the engine, transmission, braking system, and suspension,
and over $34,000 was spent. The 356 was enjoyed for many years
before being stored and later sold to the current owner.
In April 2025, European Collectibles performed a comprehensive
mechanical restoration of the 356. The undercarriage and suspension
were stripped to bare metal, refinished to factory specifications,
and the braking system was rebuilt with all new components. The
engine received new cylinder heads and pushrod tubes, with all
major parts were inspected and measured before reassembly and
tuning. As a result, this 356 is among the strongest examples that
we have driven in recent years, delivering performance comparable
to, or exceeding, a Super-90 or 356SC.
Powered by the matching 1600cc Super engine (Type 616/2) producing
75 horsepower, paired to a 4-speed manual transmission (Type 741)
with four-wheel drum braking system. Complete with the Porsche
Kardex, Porsche Production Specifications, spare wheel, 14 years of
service history, and recent work performed by European Collectibles
totaling over $30,000, this is an excellent opportunity to acquire
a well-sorted T5 356B Super Coupe in its factory color combination,
ready to enjoy the drive.
