"Simply put, the DTS is an open invitation to a world of luxurious
performance. What elevates it to this exalted level? Maybe it's the
luxury appointments, such as a refined interior with available
Tehama leather and dark, burled walnut wood. Or perhaps it has
something to do with the 41.6 inches of rear leg room and an 18.8
cubic foot trunk. And you have a distinct look that vows it will
never be mistaken for anything else in the executive parking lot."
From the 2010 sales brochure.
For consignment, a 2010 Cadillac DTS Luxury Collection 4 door sedan
with a title verified 6,953 actual miles. That's not a typo! This
final year DTS, if not the lowest mileage one available in the
country, might certainly be the cleanest!
Exterior
Our stately ride begins with GM's two stage Tuscan Bronze
Chromaflair which has the distinct capability of changing hues
depending on the light and suffice it to say, the paint is miles
deep and gives on a tinge of green. It's contrasted by the beige
vinyl top with coverage on the door frames, augmented by mirrored
B-pillar trim. A wispy double pinstripe travels the shoulder line
and the profile is further enhanced with 17-inch chrome wheels with
double striped white wall tires. Headlights, tail lights, and the
elongated brake light on the decklid are flush to the body but
those vertical tail lights are a vestigial representation of
Cadillac's history of epic rear lights. Imperfections are few with
a light scuffs on the bumper corners, some of that pinstripe
peeling, touched up chips on the bumper, others on a rear door and
front bumper, chin scrapes, and some typical headlight lens
oxidation.
Interior
This modern lap of luxury begins with cream colored door panels
topped by dark wood applique and matching brown plastic for
contrast. From there, it's the soft cushions of the leather bucket
seats you'll experience with a touch of wrinkling on the driver's
side while in back, passengers are afforded the wonderful, padded
configuration of the rear bench which remains in impeccable
condition. Our brown steering wheel leads to a dashboard that
shares the color palette of the doors placing a plastic dash pad
over a burlwood header and cream panel. The instrument cluster is
concise and clear and the center stack starts with a classy clock,
then holds the AM/FM/CD player and A/C panel and all of it is
framed in simulated dark wood which waterfalls onto the center
console holding the shifter, cupholders, and the armrest with
storage. Plush beige carpet below is protected by even more plush
black carpeted mats with the gold Cadillac crest. Above us, an
overhead console and sunroof look showroom fresh and the trunk also
looks untouched, finished in gray cloth paneling.
Drivetrain
It's shroud city under the hood where the plastic panels keep
things clean and cover a 4.6 liter Northstar V8, fuel injected and
rated at 275 horsepower. It is backed by a 4T80E 4-speed automatic
transmission that keeps power up front, routing it through 3.11
gears.
Undercarriage
Other than metals tarnished by temperature and time, the underside
could have easily rolled off the assembly line yesterday. In short,
it's spotlessly clean! Four wheel power disc brakes are on board,
the original dual exhaust system including the mufflers, and
suspension that is composed as Macpherson struts up front and a
multilink in back.
Drive-Ability
Classic Auto Mall is right off the Pennsylvania Turnpike which
makes it convenient, but at times, a bit noisy. But roll up the
windows of this big Caddy and the road noise goes away. She's a
sweet cruiser with a soft ride and plenty of power underfoot and an
off the charts comfortable interior. We note the TPMS system light
is on prompting service, but all functions on board operate as they
would on a new car. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these
functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot
guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your
purchase.
Here's a fifteen year old car that might not be an official
classic, but keep it in this condition for another few years, and a
Cadillac sedan from the early 2000's will be a rare treat. As is,
the Cadillac/La Salle clubs would welcome your presence. Of course,
you could also get in and drive it daily and no one would fault you
for whatever comfortable avenue you take.
