I am a friend of the owner, Mr M, with whom I recently met with a couple of times to get the full description and provenance of this immaculate Jag. For the entire story please follow this link:
What follows is a list of some of the items that have been replaced with new factory Jaguar parts. I sat with Mr M at two different times, once over lunch, and once over breakfast and the lists that follow have been distilled from pages of notes I took while we went through the photos and talked about the restoration. I can say for certain the following lists are not complete but they can give you a feel for the lengths Mr M went in restoring this beautiful car.
Front and rear suspension: New Steering Rack and tie rods, upper and lower control arms, bushings, dust seals and hardware, brake disks, calipers and pads, hubs, differential, drive axles, knock off’s, adjustable dampers, sway bars, and end links
Engine: Original V-12 Engine block, new crankshaft, main caps, bearings and bolts, camshafts, bearings and caps, valves, guides, valve springs, pistons, rods, bearings, wrist pins, rings, and sleeves. New timing chain, gears and tensioner. New intake runners, ceramic coated exhaust headers, and carburetors, water pump, fuel pump, alternator, AC compressor, distributor, ignition wires, coil, spark plugs, head bolts, valve train hardware, freeze plugs. New radiator and fan. The original valve covers have been powder coated for a painted/machined look. All new hoses and fuel delivery, air boxes and elements, new wiring harness, and stainless exhaust and mufflers.
Transmission: Original factory 4 speed completely rebuilt, new clutch disk, pressure plate, release bearing, and clutch release fork plus all hardware and seals
Lighting: All interior and exterior lights are new as are the bezels and trims.
Interior: New factory seats and trims, carpet, gauges, steering wheel and horn kit, shifter, shift knob, shift boot and bezel, interior door panels and handles, knobs and hardware. New soft top. The speedometer with odometer is original, showing actual total original mileage of 43772.
Monocoque: stripped bare, primed, painted and cleared. Undercoated where necessary and rhino-lined on the interior surfaces for sound deadening. There are NO patch panels or replacement panels, and there was zero rust repair performed. The glass is all original, but all the seals, gaskets, guides, and trims are new. The bumpers are original and have been re-chromed. The original VIN/ENG tag was removed for body refinishing and reinstalled as was the “Made in England” badge.
Included with this car: The original Owner’s Manual, took kit, window sticker, and receipts for all the components used in the restoration
Please scroll through the extensive set of pictures provided and respond with any questions or comments. If you are like me you will not only appreciate the completeness of this restoration, but you might find yourself overwhelmed at how far above and beyond Mr M went on this restoration.
It is one thing to claim a car has sentimental value, and for that reason it should command a high price. This is not what this is. It is another thing to demand a high price for a cars provenance, its famous owners, or for its race wins or trophies at the Concours De Elegance at Pebble Beach or Amelia Island. This Jag is not that either though one could argue its potential standing at such events. This is, for all intents and purposes, a brand new, completely restored beyond factory standards, 43,772 original mile, 10 mile after restoration, 1973, V-12, 4 speed, convertible Jaguar E-Type. We’ve been scouring the internet for months and have not come across anything of this caliber. This is a chance of a lifetime to own a spectacular “no expense spared” car built to drive and last by a passionate detail-oriented enthusiast.
