This 1965 Ford Mustang GT Convertible is the real deal - a TRUE
factory GT, not a clone - finished in its original Rangoon Red over
White Pony Interior. Benefiting from a full rotisserie restoration
completed approximately five years ago, this is a high-quality,
well-sorted GT that presents beautifully and drives every bit as
good as it looks. With factory A/C, power steering, disc brakes,
and an A-code 289 4-barrel under the hood, this GT Convertible
checks every box.
Exterior
Finished in its original Rangoon Red (Code J), the paint has
excellent shine and depth, consistent with a well-executed, fairly
recent restoration. There are a couple of very small chips from
normal use, but the body is extremely dry, solid, and straight
throughout. Body lines are crisp, and the car appears
accident-free. GT-specific items such as the correct rear floor
exhaust mount plate are present. Chrome, trim, and lenses show very
nicely. The convertible top fits well, and the wheels and tires are
in excellent condition, completing the car's classic GT look.
Interior
The interior is finished in its factory-correct White Pony Luxury
Interior (Trim F2) and looks fantastic. Seats, carpets, dash, and
door panels all present beautifully. The original dash clock works
intermittently, while the rest of the gauges are fully functional
and the dash condition is excellent. The car has seat belts, and
there are no interior smells, reflecting a very clean,
well-cared-for cabin. Everything feels tight and fresh, consistent
with a high-quality restoration that has only been lightly
used.
Underhood & Body
Under the hood sits the desirable A-code 289ci V8 4-barrel, paired
with the C4 automatic transmission (Code 6) and a 3.00 rear axle
(Code 1). Factory air conditioning equipment is in place and the
compressor spins freely; it will need a recharge to become fully
functional. Power steering and front disc brakes make this Mustang
especially enjoyable to drive. The underbody is truly impressive -
exceptionally clean, detailed, and exactly what you expect from a
rotisserie restoration that has been driven occasionally but not
abused. Floors, rails, torque boxes, and all GT-specific
undercarriage components look excellent.
Driving
This Mustang runs and drives extremely well. The A-code 289
delivers crisp power, the C4 automatic shifts smoothly, and the car
drives straight with no unwanted noises. Braking performance is
excellent thanks to the front disc brakes, and steering is light
and predictable with the factory power setup. It's tight,
responsive, and just feels "right" - exactly what you hope for in a
restored GT Convertible.
Conclusion
This 1965 Mustang GT Convertible is a highly desirable,
factory-documented GT with its original colors, A-code powertrain,
factory A/C, power steering, disc brakes, and an impressive
rotisserie restoration. It's a strong driver with show-quality
presence - the kind of car that performs as good as it looks. Very
few GT Convertibles check this many boxes.
