Cruisin Classics is pleased to present to you this 1977 Porsche 911
Targa. This iconic German sports car underwent over $18K in
mechanical service in 2021 (we have receipts for all that work) and
it's an absolute blast to drive! That said, this 911 does have some
areas that could be improved upon - particularly the paint and the
interior seat inserts. This car offers you the opportunity to buy
cool European classic that you can hop in today and enjoy for a
very reasonable price while you make improvements to it over time.
Let's take a deeper dive into this timeless classic...
This 911 comes to us today dressed in what we believe to be a
single-stage respray of its original color - Guards Red (also known
as India Red, paint code 027). The paint does exhibit some fading,
cracks, swirls, scratches, and chips of varying size - it's
definitely driver-quality. At about 10 feet away though, those
imperfections don't stand out at all and it just looks like a
bright red Porsche. Though the paint on this car may have some
issues, we found no evidence of any rust on the exterior. The front
end of the car features signature round headlights that flank a
dramatically sloped front trunk lid with an eye-catching Porsche
crest at the leading edge. Under the front bumper are a set of fog
lights that do not work (there is a factory switch on the dash
meant to operate them). As you move around to the side of the car
two things really catch your attention - the removable black targa
top and the "whale tail" on the rear trunklid. Unlike most modern
targa tops that are a solid one piece affair, this top actually
folds down to roughly half its size so that it can easily be stowed
in the front trunk. Behind the top is a black halo band with
"targa" script badging and a curved rear window. The whale tail
would not have been available on this particular model in '77 but
it sure looks spectacular on the car. Also in the side view are
dual body-color side mirrors, door edge guards, silver trim around
the base of the rear window, black door handles, and black rocker
molding. Completing the look are a set of Fuchs wheels (in driver
condition) wrapped in Michelin Sport XGT tires (good tread, but
showing some age cracking on the sides). Around back you'll find
wrap-around taillights with PORSCHE lettering in between, a bumper
like the one up front but with large black guards, and a single
exhaust outlet.
Lift the rear decklid to find a stock 2.7 liter air-cooled
fuel-injected flat 6-cylinder engine mated up to a 5-speed manual
transmission. Though the rear decklid shocks were replaced a four
years ago, they do not hold the weight of the lid. In 2021, a shop
in Fort Wayne Indiana performed extensive work to the mechanicals
of this Porsche that involved removing and seperating the engine
and transmission. They tore the engine down, removed the cylinder
heads, added new valve guides and cut the valves and valve seats,
set the timing, and did a valve adjustment. The work didn't stop
there though, many expensive parts were replaced including the oil
cooler ($1,400), fuel injectors ($1,050), control unit ($1,100),
and warm-up regulator ($1,100). Additional work includes new plugs,
wires, cap & rotor, fuel filter, air filter, ignition wires, fuel
distributor, resurfacing the flywheel and pressure plate, new rear
stabilizer bushings, steering column bushing and bearing, fuel
sending unit, fuel pressure regulator, coil, sway bar bushings, air
filter housing, battery, oil change, overhauling the rear calipers,
and repairing the fuel distributor. This work totaled over $18K and
we're happy to share the receipts. Needless to say, this 911 runs
and drives well now and is ready to hit the road and enjoy.
The interior of this Porsche is dressed in black with red and blue
McLaughlin tartan plaid seat inserts and door panel accents - a
stunning combination. Unfortunately, the plaid material on the
drivers seat and rear seats has not aged well and will need to be
replaced. Despite the issues with the plaid, the black vinyl
portion of the seats (including the bolsters) looks very good. The
door panels have speakers, window cranks, armrests with hidden
storage beneath, and a power mirror control on the drivers side.
The lower armrest storage section on the drivers side will either
need to be repaired or replaced, though it is still loosely
attached currently. The floors are covered with soft black carpet
that's kept nice with carpeted Porsche floormats. Between the front
bucket seats you'll find the emergency brake and defrost levers and
just ahead is the shifter for the 5-speed manual transmission.
Ahead of the driver is a black leather-wrapped 3-spoke steering
wheel with working horn on a fixed column. The working wipers are
controlled by a stalk on the right side of the wheel. Ahead of the
wheel is a crack-free black dash that's home to gauges for gas,
oil, temperature, and oil pressure as well as an 8K tachometer. The
150mph speedometer and odometer (which reads 49,957 miles) are
inoperative. Also on the dash are working heat & fan controls and a
working aftermarket AM/FM/Cassette stereo. Ahead of the front
passenger is a glovebox that contains the original owners manual
portfolio with warranty card. Up in the clean carpeted front trunk
are a mini-spare, jack, and the original tool kit roll.

just out of reach, this is your chance to get into one at an
