"The Corvette Club of America was founded by John Ralph and Charles
Eyre who organized the first club meeting on July 17, 1956 at the
Rosenthal Chevrolet dealership in Arlington, Virginia. The
formation of the club was greatly aided by the sports car
environment in the Nation's Capital following WWII. The Washington
D.C. area was a hotbed of sports car activity. The very first
region to join the Sports Car Club of America, (SCCA), back in 1948
was Washington D.C. Region." Cca-vette-club.org
For consignment, a 2000 Chevrolet Corvette convertible with a title
verified 13,666 actual miles. Break that down over years and we're
talking about 500 miles per year! Heck, it's practically a new
car!
Exterior
Vettes look great in just about any color and Light Pewter Metallic
is no exception with this one has been pampered and the body and
paint remain in excellent condition 25 years later. The dramatic
wedge shape is not lost to observers even when the top is up as the
contrasting black canvas never disrupts the rising shoulder line of
the sports car and the color combo gets a chef's kiss every time.
Then of course, you have the chrome 5 spoke wheels, looking as
sporty as you can get and staggered with 17-inch fronts and 18-inch
rears carrying staggered size low profile tires. The fender gill
defines the body contour on the side, a nod to the Corvette legacy
once occupied by a colored coved. Out back, center exit quad
exhaust is an epic feature while some minor chin scrapes make our
notes as the only exterior imperfections.
Interior
Black on black door panels with a rubber coated switch plate on the
driver's door that show no wear where it usually shows up first.
Very minor creasing is found on the black leather bucket seat of
the driver, while the passenger seat presents full and clean. The
black palette continues with the handsome and thick steering wheel,
the dash, and instrument cluster going to the dark side with easy
to read gauges that pop with white numbering and bright red
needles. Rounded buttons adorn the center stack that includes an
AM/FM/CD radio over a factory climate panel, both with digital
green readouts. The shifter is dressed in a black leather boot over
a formed plastic center console and the low pile black carpet is
protected by fitted mats up front but is open for viewing in the
hatch area and it barely looks used. The entire interior looks like
it jumped off the sales brochure pages.
Drivetrain
Attention to detail did not stop with the paint. The engine bay is
just about showroom clean, housing the mighty 5.7 liter LS1 V8
rated at 350 horsepower and mated to a Tremec T56 6-speed manual
transmission that sends power to the 3.42 gears with Limited Slip
in back.
Undercarriage
General use patina is noted on the underside but nothing unusual or
remarkable on the generally clean and dry belly. Dual exhaust runs
tandem down the middle before meeting glasspack style mufflers and
exiting through chrome tips. Power disc brakes are employed in
front and back and suspension consists of independent unequal
length double wishbones with transverse composite monoleaf springs
and monotube shocks.
Drive-Ability
Quick, nimble and tight, this Pewter Patriot handles turns like an
Indy car and straight aways like a dragster. It is comfortable
inside and when things get hot, you simply hit the air conditioning
or put the top down. We note all functions on this C5 wonder work
as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these
functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot
guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your
purchase.
A 2000 Corvette with less than 15,000 miles! Great paint, a
droppable top, and a fun stick in the middle. What's not to love
here? You could put 50,000 miles on this car tomorrow and still
have a relatively low mileage Corvette!
