For Sale: 1932 Ford 5-Window Coupe in Scottsdale, Arizona

Vehicle Description

This amazing 1932 Ford 5 Window Coupe is recognized as a historically significant example of American hot rodding in the 1950’s.

This is an incredible survivor that remains (for the most part) exactly as it was built sixty-nine years ago. This is what a young hot rodder dreamed of building and driving back in the day.

The car was built in 1957 by Laverne Stetzer (the owner) and Rudy Rudisill who performed the majority of the build along with his sons. Because the car was constructed in York, Pennsylvania it’s been known since then as the “York Coupe”. The car is legendary for its professionally channeled Henry Ford steel body, authentic 1950’s speed equipment and of course the famous Hemi engine. The car is famous in the upper North East U.S. But, other than the magazines that the car has been featured in its little known in the rest of the Country. So, this is an excellent opportunity to bring a truly special car to a new audience in other parts of the Country. We think it’s always fun to bring a car to a show that people have never seen before in person, only read about.

The documented history of the build is amazing. The car has been written up in at least three publications that we know of, those being HOTROD magazine, Rod & Kulture magazine and Kustomrama. If you contact us we’ll be happy to send you the links to articles about this car in these publications. We think these will answer most of your questions. People have told us that they’ve seen the car in other publications but, don’t recall the names. Please, if you’ve seen the car somewhere else please let us know.

The photos of the build and the list of previous owners is among the most documented I’ve personally ever seen for a car of this type. You might expect that level of documentation in a Duesenberg or something like that but, hardly ever seen in an old hot rod. Maybe you’ve seen this level of provenance more than me because I’ve only been active in the hobby for fifty-nine years.

We can trace the cars history all the way back to when it was found in the junk yard as an uncut five window coupe, a frame and some wheels for $225.00. It’s said that it took about a year to build this and the list of modifications is too extensive to list here but, some examples are……

  • Body channeled over a Z’d frame
  • 1940 Ford brakes with finned front brake drums.
  • 1952 Chrysler 332 CU.in. Hemi engine
  • Very desirable, dual quad Edmonds aluminum intake manifold.
  • Dropped front axle
  • 1949 Plymouth station wagon rear roof section
  • Sectioned 1949 Mercury dashboard.

Incredibly because of the extensive research that’s been done on this car, we think we know the names of most if not all of the owners of this car from 1957 to today.

It has been said that this car cost ten grand to build in ’57. Think about it for a minute and realize that you could have purchased a nice house for that kind of money back then. Using an inflation calculator it works out that it’s about $118,512 in today’s purchasing power.

This is a great opportunity for someone who truly understands the historical significance of this amazing survivor. This is a real deal, authentic 1950’s survivor that deserves to be in a premier collection, a museum or the pride and joy of the next lucky owner.
