For Sale: 2001 Jeep Cherokee in Doylestown, Ohio

Vehicle Description

This is my 22-y/o son’s 2001 Cherokee XJ that has been his daily driver for 3+ years.  This Cherokee has 177K miles but less miles on the engine and transmission.  The previous owner proactively did the head swap to avoid the cracking issues associated with 2001 4.0's and had the entire original 4.0 engine rebuilt by a local shop (I have all the receipts).  I purchased the Cherokee less than a year and 1,000 miles after the engine rebuild.  Two years later, the oil pressure suddenly dropped while driving. We had it towed to a local shop and discovered one main bearing had spun, likely due to improper installation of the crankshaft or due to the crankshaft not being properly re-surfaced when the engine was rebuilt.  My local shop located a used late 1990’s 4.0 engine with 128K miles and installed that engine into this Cherokee.  This engine runs great and has no issues whatsoever.  Recently, the original transmission was having some issues and we had the same shop install a used 2001 transmission with 130K miles, along with the bellhousing and fresh seals.

The body, frame, and interior are in absolutely excellent condition.  The black paint has small chips and scratches, but is overall in very good condition.  I do not know whether the paint is original or re-painted, but I suspect it is mostly/all original paint due to the tiny stone chips below the belt-line.  The interior is gray cloth and is in excellent condition with just two small puncture spots on the driver's seat.  The dashboard is in excellent condition with very crisp, functioning full instrumentation.  Everything works on the vehicle with a couple minor exceptions.  All four power windows operate, but only the driver can operate the other three windows… I assume the “parent lockout” switch needs to be replaced on the driver’s controls.  The volume control is “sticky” on the stereo.

This Cherokee has power steering, power brakes, power windows, power locks, power mirrors, original AM/FM/cassette with remote auxiliary port for Bluetooth and air conditioning (blows cold).  We purchased the Cherokee with the 3” lift, Yakima roof rack, and WARN winch with wired remote control already installed by the previous owner.  The brand-new tires are Cooper Discoverer All-Terrains, 245-75R-16, just installed in September of 2025 with less than 1,000 miles on them.  During the 3+ years we have owned this Cherokee, it has been serviced with a new battery, starter, brakes, alignment, front suspension work, AC service, exhaust work, etc.  The current engine does not use oil and gets regular oil changes.  Engine has 60psi oil pressure at cold start and holds 50psi at 1500rpm at full operating temperature.  It has been oil-sprayed underneath and inside the body panel the past three winters (2022, 2023 & 2024).

This Cherokee is a real head-turner and gets attention wherever it goes.  It is in rock-solid overall condition and is very straight.  It’s in about the best overall condition that you will find.  The reason we are selling is that my son is graduating from Engineering school this Spring and needs an “adult” vehicle to begin his career.  This Cherokee has been a great college vehicle for him, but he can only afford one vehicle at this time.
