While it may be gone from production, the legend of the Chevelle is
far from forgotten. One look at this 1967 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396
Tribute, and it's easy to see why this car has amassed a massive
following over the last half-century. Fully repainted in this
eye-catching red exterior, along with its complementary black
hardtop to accompany its correctly placed SS badging, this car
makes an entrance anywhere it goes.
Inside, we find a clean, stock-style red vinyl interior. A center
console separates a pair of bucket seats. A power-assisted
three-spoke steering wheel sits in front of a horizontal 120 mph
speedometer, while a 7,000 rpm tachometer sits offset to the left.
A temperature gauge sits just below the sliding HVAC controls,
while a little further down we find a large analog clock. The AM
radio offers some entertainment, but the real fun is provided by
the four-speed shift pattern plate located next to the chrome
floor-mounted shifter.
Under the hood, we find a big 396 cubic-inch V-8 engine. A single
four-barrel Quadrajet carburetor feeds a stock-style intake
manifold, while spent gases are routed through a set of long tube
headers and true-dual exhaust. That power is funneled through a
tried-and-true Borg Warner Super T10 four-speed manual transmission
before being sent out to the ten-bolt rear end.
