This 1959 Chevrolet Impala convertible is powered by a
period-correct 348ci Tri-Power V8 engine paired with a Powerglide
2-speed automatic transmission. The 1959 model was a one-year-only
body style for the Impala, known for its unique "batwing" tailfins
and "cat-eye" taillights. The exterior is expertly finished in red,
complemented by a white convertible top over a red interior. The
engine rebuild included hardened seats, valves and springs for
unleaded fuel, a machined block, new rings, a camshaft, pistons,
crankshaft service, rebuilt carburetors, and fresh oil and filter.
Mechanical updates include a resealed and inspected transmission
with new fluid, a rebuilt driveshaft, new rear axle seals, gaskets
and fluid, and replaced fuel lines and fuel tank. Additional work
included a complete new suspension with shocks, as well as a
complete new braking system with shoes, hardware, wheel cylinders
and hoses. Electrical updates include repaired wiring for lights
and bulbs, the power top received electric system service. This
Impala rides on 15-inch wheels with full wheel covers wrapped in
wide whitewall radial tires and has front and rear seatbelts
installed. From the Albert La Canne Collection.
