This 1967 Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS convertible pace car is powered by
a 396ci L35 V8 engine rated at 325hp and 410 ft/lbs of torque,
paired with a TH400 3-speed automatic transmission and an optional
posi-traction differential. In April 1967, Chevrolet produced a
limited number of special "pace car" convertibles to commemorate
the Indianapolis 500, followed by an additional 11 convertibles
built in June 1967 at the Norwood, OH, plant with identical "pace
car" specifications. These 11 cars, each equipped with the 396ci
L35 V8, were delivered to Canada for use as parade cars during the
Canadian Grand Prix at Mosport Park in Ontario. This example is one
of those 11 Canadian pace cars. Each was ordered under GM of Canada
Sales Promotion code 80055 and distributed from Oshawa to Canadian
dealers, all built during the third week of June 1967 and
identified with "06" body tags. These cars were equipped with the
L35 396ci engine, M40 Turbo-Hydramatic transmission, G80
posi-traction rear axle, simulated wood steering wheel, power
convertible top, front and rear bumper guards, deluxe seat belts,
N44 special steering and door-edge guards. The 396ci L35 V8 retains
its factory engine identification stamping and correct MY suffix,
confirming its 325hp configuration for automatic transmission use,
and was overhauled during refurbishment. Equipment includes a
4-barrel carburetor, power steering and power-assisted front disc
and rear drum brakes. It rides on 14-inch Rally wheels with FR70-14
Firestone Wide Oval red line tires. The exterior is finished in
special-order white paint with a white soft-top, as indicated on
the Fisher Body Tag, which decodes as Build Date 06C, Style
67-12667, Body NOR 137659, Trim 732-Z Bright Blue vinyl with Strato
bucket seats, Paint 0-1 white with white soft-top, D Power top, 2ZG
automatic transmission with center console, 3SL Interior Decor
Group with Rally Sport package, 4N L35 396ci V8 and 5BY rear bumper
guards with deluxe seat belts. The interior features bright blue
vinyl bucket seats with white accents, a matching rear bench,
center console, Custom Autosound stereo, retractable front lap
belts and factory instrumentation, including a 120-mph speedometer,
tachometer, clock and auxiliary gauges in the console.
Documentation includes the original Window Sticker, Canadian
shipping record, letters and literature related to both the 1967
Indianapolis 500 pace cars and the Canadian Grand Prix parade cars,
along with refurbishment records, memorabilia and parade flags. Two
of the confirmed Canadian Pace Cars are VIN 124677N236959 and this
example, VIN 124677N237202.
