This 1956 Checker Marathon Taxi Pro-Street hot rod was custom-built
by the famous Barry's Speed Shop in Corona, CA. The exterior is
finished in stunning Taxicab Yellow with custom air-brushed
checkered stripes and logos on the doors. The completely hand-built
interior is finished in black leather and is equipped with a
Vintage Air system. This is an uncommon example of an authentic
Marathon taxicab that was converted into a Pro-Street car. It rides
on a hand-fabricated Barry's Speed Shop (BSS) tubular frame and
four-link rear suspension that features a Mark Williams complete
modular bulletproof rear end. The front suspension is all hand-made
by BSS with tubular A-arms and spindles. The shocks are adjustable
QA1s and the brakes are polished Wilwood with stainless-steel brake
lines. This car is powered by a third-generation 426ci Chrysler
HEMI engine purchased from Mopar Performance as a new crate engine.
This HEMI features a Blower Drive Service (BDS) polished 6-71
blower, electronic fuel injection by XFI and is topped off with a
vintage polished 3-blade Enderle High Hat, as well as BSS giant
ceramic hand-built headers and full exhaust. The automatic
transmission is a 4L80E with a B&M Street Bandit billet
shifter. The driveshaft is by Mark Williams with Spicer U-joints.
The wheels are a one-off Barry's Speed Shop Pro-Street-themed
design. The massive rear wheels are fitted with Toto 325 50 R20s,
while the fronts are Toto 235-40 R18s. It also is equipped with a
BSS hand-fabricated aluminum fuel cell with Aeromotive fuel
delivery system. The front and rear bumpers were cut and tucked
into the body. The engine compartment and firewall were all
handmade to fit the Pro-Street theme. Hundreds of hours were put
into the body and yellow paint. Air-brushed checkerboard stripes
and the taxi logos were an added touch. Just like the exterior of
the car, no expense was spared on the interior. The spacious seats
are hand-stitched leather with power adjustability, and the pedals
are chromed Lokar. The handmade BSS dashboard houses Classic
Instrument gauges, while the steering wheeling is an original
Checker Motor Corporation (CMC) piece, and on the dash sits an
original 1950s taxicab meter, which is fitting for the build.
