INTRODUCTION
Referred to in Porsche’s internal nomenclature as a 981, this 2014 Porsche Boxster is finished in Mahogany Metallic, with a Brown convertible top and Porsche’s Luxor Beige Leather interior. The car also features the company’s very popular and reliable, PDK seven-speed dual-clutch automated transmission.
Hailed as the car that saved Porsche, the 1996 Boxster came into being during a time in which Porsche’s business model was failing. A faltering U.S. economy, coupled with inefficient manufacturing processes, were threatening to sink the company. The decision was made to produce a less-expensive mid-engine roadster that would share much of its architecture and componentry with the 911. Additionally, former Toyota engineers were consulted to implement “just-in-time” production methods to shave costs and eliminate waste. It worked. The Boxster became a runaway success and is currently one of the marque’s two longest running nameplates, second only to the 911.
POWERTRAIN
The 2014 Boxster’s “A122” 2.7-liter DOHC flat-six engine uses direct fuel injection, redlines at 7,500 rpm and is capable of producing 265 horsepower and 207 ft-lb of torque. This rear-wheel drive car uses the Porsche Doppel Kupplungs getriebe, which translates to mean “Porsche double-clutch transmission.” Also known as the “PDK”, this automated seven-speed gearbox provides the control a traditional manual transmission affords the driver, along with faster shifting and the convenience of an automatic transmission when it is desired. The engine, with less than 38,000 miles, is original to the car and is free of modifications. It “starts easily, as it should, on cold or hot starts.” Further, there are no leaks or weeps from the engine or the transmission, which “shifts properly.” The engine’s oil and filter were changed at 36507 miles.
CHASSIS
There have been no modifications to the suspension system. There are “no issues” with the brakes. All bushings and shocks are “excellent” and there is no need for suspension servicing. The power steering system exhibits no leaks and there is no play in the steering wheel. The wheels exhibit no curb rash.
EXTERIOR
The car’s Mahogany Metallic paint is original and has some “tiny chips on the front bumper and hood.” The convertible top is in very good condition, with minimal wear from being folded. Similarly, all seals are “excellent” and there are no leaks. All lighting is working properly. The car has “no rust”, and there are no modifications to the body.
INTERIOR
Porsche’s Luxor Beige Leather adorns this car’s interior and is complemented by genuine mahogany trim on the dash and center console. The interior is unmodified and in “excellent” condition. The condition of the carpeting is “excellent” and all interior trim is in “excellent condition” as well. The roof’s headliner is in “excellent condition”. The audio system is factory original and it provides “excellent stereo sound.” All instrumentation functions properly, as do the power windows, power door locks, power trunks, power convertible top, heat and A/C.
