Cruisin Classics is pleased to present this classic 1954 Chevrolet
Bel Air. This car is a genuine piece of Americana that's bound to
turn heads and bring smiles to faces wherever it goes! This is an
older restoration, but it still presents exceedingly well. The cowl
tag tells us it's dressed in its original colors - a Turquoise body
with ivory top (563). It was resprayed when restored, and the paint
has held up well over the years and it's still in good
driver-quality condition. If the cool color combination doesn't
grab your attention, the immense amount of gleaming chrome and
brightwork sure will. The front view features a bulbous hood with
jet-style hood ornament and a colorful Chevy crest, round
headlights in bright bezels, a 5-tooth chrome grille, and a bright
chrome bumper with guards. Yet more bright trim comes into view as
you walk around to the side of the car - rocker molding, window
trim, door edge guards, rain deflectors, door handles, side mirror,
gas door ornamentation, and beautiful body side molding with a
white center accent toward the rear that ties in the color of the
top. A white and chrome adjustable sun visor sits above the
windshield and body-color fender skirts add a classy touch at the
rear. The cherry on top of the side view are the body-color steel
wheels with bright full-size hubcaps all wrapped in BF Goodrich
Silvertown wide white-wall radials - a simply perfect choice.
Around back you'll find chrome framed taillights, a mirror-finish
bumper with overrider, dual chrome exhaust tips, and another Chevy
crest and "PowerGlide" badge on the decklid.
Under the hood sits a correct 235ci 3.9 liter Blue Flame inline
6-cylinder that was factory-rated at 125hp - not exactly a
powerhouse, but reliable and almost indestructible. The block is
topped with a blue valve cover with "Blue Flame 125" call-out. The
single barrel carburetor sits off to the side and it's topped with
a correct oil-bath air cleaner. A quick look around reveals power
steering, a 6-volt electrical system, and dual exhaust with
newer-looking Xlerator mufflers that sound great. The six-cylinder
is mated up to a 2-speed Powerglide automatic transmission that
sends power to the rear via a 10-bolt rear axle. Stopping power is
provided by 4-wheel manual drum brakes.
Open the doors to discover an attractive and comfortable green,
teal, and white interior. The door panels are a combination of
white vinyl, teal fabric, green carpet, and bright trim and they
are in very good condition. We noted during our inspection that the
rear passenger window operates with difficulty and the rear
drivers-side seems stuck in the up position, but the front windows
operate as they should. The window surrounds are body-color and so
is the upper dash. Both the front and rear bench seats are covered
with white vinyl and teal fabric with bright silver piping. The
seats are comfortable and in excellent condition. Overhead is a
tight white vinyl headliner and underfoot is green hook & loop
carpet topped with black rubber Chevy bowtie floormats. Ahead of
the driver is a large 2-spoke turquoise steering wheel with a
bright full-circle horn ring (working). The dash is vintage cool
and sports ample chrome touches and a white bottom section that
matches the exterior roof color. On the dash are a 110mph
speedometer and working gauges for temp, gas, battery, and oil
pressure as well as an inop. clock. Also on the dash are controls
for lights, wipers (inop.), heater and fan (inop.) and an AM radio
(inop.). From the center of the dash to the right side is a
vertically-ribbed chrome section that covers a speaker and the
glovebox door. In the glovebox are two owners manuals (1 original,
1 reproduction), a formula for the turquoise paint, some receipts,
and a mileage log kept by the owner who restored the car. The
odometer currently reads 22,736 miles and the title states "exceeds
mechanical limits". The yearly mileage log shows us that the
odometer read 3,698 miles back in '97 - so, only 19K miles have
been put on the car in the last 28 years. Under the dash is a
"HEAT" switch that does nothing and a black GM tissue dispenser. On
the front floor is a custom-made wood cupholder and caddy that will
surely come in handy. Back in the trunk are a fitted black rubber
floorliner, black cardboard walls, a full bias-ply spare and period
jack, jumper cables, and a car cover.
