This handsome, well restored, 1970 Chevelle SS 396 convertible is
finished beautifully in code 78 Astro Blue paint with white SS
stripes and sports the highly desirable, optional ZL2 functional
cowl induction hood with hood pins. Standard on the SS396 is a
blacked-out grille, wheel-opening moldings, black SS rear bumper
insert, five-spoke SS wheels, rectangular dual exhaust outlets and
the famous SS badging which are all present on this exceptional
example.
The contrasting white interior is nicely enhanced with great
factory options that include a center console, bucket seats,
correct optional 3-spoke SS steering wheel and air conditioning, as
well as the optional tach and gauge package. An upgraded retro
AM/FM/AUX radio is discreetly installed in the original radio's
location without disturbing the originality of the dash.
Under the cowl induction hood is a healthy L34 350 horsepower 396
big block engine paired with a TH400 automatic transmission that
delivers power back to a 12-bolt posi rear end. The engine bay is
stock in appearance, including colors, valve covers and even hoses
and clamps. This Chevelle handles great thanks to optional power
steering. The standard F41 Special Performance front and rear
suspension includes power front disc brakes, high-rate springs and
shocks, large diameter front sway bar and a rear sway bar with
boxed rear lower control arms. Additionally, this Chevelle has been
upgraded with tubular front control arms and rear trailing
arms.
