While the new eighth-generation Corvette is undoubtedly exciting,
there is still nothing like the first generation of GM's halo car
to get the hearts of enthusiasts pumping. But by combining many of
today's modern technologies with the old-school-cool look of a C1,
this 1962 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible Restomod embodies the best
of both worlds. Fully repainted in Corvette Red to complement its
white soft top, this car magazine feature car comes with plenty of
receipts to document its exciting build.
Inside, we find a fully restored red leather interior complete with
a set of red leather bucket seats separated by a console-mounted
dual cupholder. A Grant GT three-spoke steering wheel operates a
manual rack-and-pinion setup, sits in front of the original six-pod
gauge cluster featuring a big half-moon 160 mph speedometer. A
digital Retro Sounds AM/FM/AUX radio offers Bluetooth connectivity,
sending tunes through a subwoofer and amplifier mounted in the
trunk. LED interior lights, sound deadener under the carpets, and a
finished trunk prove this car's rebuild focused on the details.
Pop up the hallmark front-hinged hood, and we find a built 383
cubic-inch crate V-8 engine with approximately 2,000 miles on it
since its installation. Outfitted with lightweight aluminum heads,
a Quick Fuel four-barrel carburetor, a performance cam, a Weiand
intake manifold, Hooker long tube headers, and a MagnaFlow dual
exhaust, this stroker small block undoubtedly pumps out far more
power than anything from the factory in 1962. That power is then
routed through a contemporary Tremec five-speed manual
transmission, which also has approximately 2,000 miles on it,
before being sent to the nine-inch rear end and a staggered set of
polished Foose wheels.
