If you're looking for a great-looking, fun, fast, and uncommon
vehicle that also happens to be relatively practical, take a look
at this 2005 Chevrolet SSR. Decked out in its believed original
Torch Red paint, this muscle truck has just 67,038 actual miles on
its odometer. Add to that the SSR's retractable hardtop, and you
have a vehicle that will turn heads everywhere it goes.
Inside, we find a host of modern amenities that old-school hot rods
can only dream of. A stock black leather interior featuring dual
power leather seats, power windows, locks, and mirrors, along with
an AM/FM/CD head unit, creates a warm and comfortable cabin with or
without the wind blowing through your hair. A power bed cover
release, air-conditioning, cruise control, and a center console
highlighted by a three-pod auxiliary gauge cluster all serve to
make road trips of any distance overwhelmingly enjoyable.
For 2005, the SSR got a big upgrade under that trick wedge-shaped
hood. Gone is the 5.3-liter Vortec V-8 from earlier years, and in
its place we find a Corvette-derived 6.0-liter LS2 V-8 engine.
Thanks to a lightweight aluminum block and heads, flat-top pistons,
and a healthy 10.9:1 compression ratio, this LS2 was capable of
pumping out an impressive 390 horsepower and 405 pound-feet of
torque when it rolled off the assembly line two decades ago. Those
ponies are routed through a heavy-duty 4L60E four-speed automatic
transmission before being sent out to the ten-bolt rear end, which
transmits power to the pavement via a set of big 20-inch polished
five-spoke wheels shod in massive 295/40R-20 rubber. At the same
time, a smaller set of 19-inch wheels wrapped in 255/45R-19 tires
give this throwback pickup the perfect staggered hot rod
stance.

Despite having a curb weight about a keg and a half short of 5,000
pounds, this 2005 Chevrolet SSR could run from 0-60 mph in a scant
5.5 seconds. And thanks to its body-color rear tonneau-covered bed,
those kegs, or just about anything else, can fit nicely in back.
While produced for only four model years, the Chevy SSR cast a
brief but shining light on the autoverse, offering an incredibly
unique, retro-modern muscle truck that proved "hauling" could mean
more than one thing. If you want to feel what it's like to sit
behind the wheel of a V-8-powered droptop truck, then don't wait
another second. Call today!
