For sale is this really nice and rare 1968 Chevrolet Camaro Rally Sport convertible. It is a power steering, power brake, factory air conditioned, power top convertible with its original 327 V8 engine and 2 speed Powerglide automatic transmission (both engine and transmssion recently professionally rebuilt.) The rear end is also orginal to the car. Much work has been done on this car to enhance it's dependabilty and comfort and appearance. A list of the work done follows in the body of this communication. The interior upholstery is new (3 years or less) as is the top/boot, A/C system, brakes. suspension, steering, tires, headlight door mechanism, and more. It is a dependable, comfortable driver. We have put about 3000 miles on the car during our ownership. Chevrolet built 235,147 Camaros in 1968. Only 16,927 were V8 convertilbes and only a very small number were optioned as this one is.
The car was bought new in 1968 from Yazoo Motors in Yazoo City, Miss. The first (and only owners until I bought it) were Miller Holmes Sr and then Miller Holmes Jr. Both were, in their time, President of the Yazoo County Bank. I bought the car from Miller Jr in about July 2020. Both of the Millers have now passed. I bought the car to flip (sell) but my wife, Ms Olivia, had some interest in it so we decided to keep it, dashing my hopes of a quick profit. Since I wanted no problems of any kind with the operation of the Camaro we have done much to try enhance the dependablilty (and comfort and appearance). The car was sound as bought - always a Southern car - there was not trace of rust - anywhere.) Having done much work on the car and having spent an absolute ton of $, Ms Olivia now thinks we should sell it! What is a guy to do? So sell it we shall.
I have a classic car retoration shop in Gluckstadt, Ms and we have been in business more than 15 years. This business, Classic Restorations, LLC, can be seen on Facebook under that name - Classic Restorations, LLC, so doing this work is more easy for me than for some. However, I pay just like any customer and I know what has been expended on the car first by the Holmes and then by me. The car was in good shape when first brought to us but things wear out over 50+ years and that resulted in much of the work done. When bought the car it had 6265 miles showing (that is thought to be 106265 total or about 1800 mile per year of the Camaro's life). Current milage is 9642. As stated much work has been expended on this car. Here is a list of that work:
8/2019 Brake system rebuilt with new hoses, shoes, wheel cylinders and master cylinder
8/2019 New battery cables, defroster hoses, fan belts, solenoid, A/C POA valave, A/C compressor, dryer and hoses; replace gas gauge sender, new pittman arm, rebuild front suspension
6/2019 Recore radiator, new engine mounts, trans mounts, rear trans seal, new polyurethane body bushings.
5/2020 New upholstery, rebuild seats, new correct floor mats
6/2021 New convertible top and boot. Rework power top mechanism
2/2022 New radio (new internals in old case; Bluetooth compatable)
3/2022 Repaint Camaro (The car originally Ash Gold. The Miller's had it painted in the 1990's in a stock '68 GM White. The paint was tired and I repainted it the same white. There is no evidence of the prior, original paint color.)
4/2022 New headlight door vacuum motor mechanism
4/2023 New wooden correct wooden steering wheel
5/2023 New correct exhaust system
5/2025 Start engine and transmision rebuild; new torque converte. The engine was taken down (we rebuild engines here) and machined by a local machine shop that we use. It was bored .030 over and the crank was turned. The heads were reworked and new pistons, bearings, seals, oil pump, timing set, water pump, etc were used. A new camshaft (high torque but with a stock idle) was installed along ith all belts and hoses. With a stock transverse muffler and dual outlets this Camaro sounds really good.)
9/2025 Purchase FI Tech brand electronic induction system (we still have the original 2bbl carb and intake and that goes with the sale) New didstributor per FI Tech's requirements. With this FI Tech EFI, the car ALWAYS cranks. That is not true of these crummy carburetors now days.
12/2024 New Hitachi high torque starter
12/2024 New alternator. hoses, fuel filter and water pump
07/2025 Rebuild A/C system with new modern Sanden compressor Air blows cold.
I have all the invoices, bills, parts invoices, etc for work done on the Camaro plus all older bills showing work done and parts bought dating back to 1984. The total spent on this "new" work - from 2019 through the present exceeds $25000. We have put about 3000 miles on the car. It is truly a super nice car that someone should be able to buy with knowledge that much effort has been expended to make the car an attractive, dependable driver. The car is located in Central Mississippi close to the intersection of Interstate 20 and Interstate 55. Please call Mike Martin @ 601-906-1196 to ask any questions or seek more information. The car be seen and driven here.
