This 1970 Chevrolet Camaro RS Split Bumper is a genuine 52,581-mile
example finished in its original Shadow Grey over Sandlewood Custom
Vinyl. Believed to have had just two owners since new, this RS
retains an honest, lightly aged presentation consistent with its
low mileage. With its factory-correct color combination, likely
original 350ci V8/TH350 drivetrain, and clean, solid structure, the
car stands out as a straight, authentic driver that has clearly
been well preserved throughout its life.
EXTERIOR
Finished in factory Shadow Grey (Paint Code 17), the car received a
respray some years back. While driver-quality and not show-level,
the body remains nice and straight with what appears to be
all-original sheet metal. The rare RS split-bumper configuration is
intact and presents well. The vinyl top is a standout
feature-tight, clean, and in excellent condition with no bubbling
or separation. The overall exterior appearance is consistent with a
low-mileage, largely untouched RS.
INTERIOR
The interior remains all original and presents exactly as a
52,581-mile survivor should. The Sandlewood Custom Vinyl upholstery
(Trim 730), original carpeting, dash, door panels, and headliner
all display light, honest wear appropriate for the mileage. Nothing
inside feels worn-out or tired; instead, it reflects careful use
over five decades. Gauges, switches, and interior functions all
operate correctly. The interior is a key indicator supporting the
car's documented miles and long-term care.
UNDERHOOD & BODY
Under the hood is a 1970-dated 350ci V8 with a TH350 automatic,
matching the CNN suffix code for a factory 2-barrel setup. While we
have not located a VIN stamp on the block, the engine decodes
correctly and is very likely original to the car. The engine bay is
tidy, stock-appearing, and consistent with a low-mile example. The
underside is structurally solid, straight, and clean. We note only
a small area of crumbling around a drain hole-non-structural and
not concerning. Floors, frame rails, and other critical areas
present very well.
DRIVING IMPRESSIONS
On the road, this RS behaves exactly like a true low-mile driver
should. It starts easily, tracks straight, shifts smoothly, and
brakes confidently. Steering is tight and assisted by power
steering for added comfort. The car feels composed, solid, and well
preserved-consistent with a car showing just over fifty-two
thousand original miles.
CONCLUSION
This 1970 Camaro RS Split Bumper is an increasingly rare find: a
true 52,581-mile, believed-two-owner car in its original Shadow
Grey/Sandlewood color combination with its likely original
drivetrain and an untouched, survivor-quality interior. Straight,
solid, and mechanically strong, it's the kind of honest early
second-gen RS that collectors look for-one that can be enjoyed
immediately as a dependable driver or taken to the next level with
cosmetics if desired.
