We hope you can read the detailed information on the Billy Bob
below as this FRC Corvette sparked the revolution in the 25 year
production of the Z06's we know today. It's a one of a kind find
and very rare.
The 1999 Fixed Roof Coupe (FRC) Corvette, nicknamed "Billy Bob," is
a distinctive model that stands out as one of the best in the C5
lineup due to its unique design and performance characteristics.
Introduced as a new body style in 1999, the FRC was the predecessor
to the high-performance Z06. Back in 1999, the Z06 was only a
"idea" by GM with no plans to see if demand would suffice that
allowed assembly lines to be changed to build a sleek, muscle car
from the Corvette production line. It was a unique time in history,
GM was seeing a market crash from the "tech-bubble" bursting and
used this FRC model to test the markets. The FRC was a instant hit.
The FRC's were sold $1,000 less than the coupe at GM dealers off
the lot, but with market demand the prices increased $6,000 over
the coupe once they were produced and on the street sold used. GM
had it's answer, and the Z06 product line was launched two years
later during one the most terrifying economic times our country had
faced. We now see Z06's everywhere and the rest is history!
The 1999 FRC's feature sleek and more rigid rooflines compared to
the standard coupe. This design improved the car's structural
integrity, reduced weight, and made the FRC the winner at the
track. After the notice at the track and it's success the prices
started to climb and later the Z06 models came with no options but
cost more than a fully loaded coupe.
The nickname "Billy Bob" became a name special to the 1999 FRC's
because most were not equipped with many options but were selling
for more than fully loaded coupes and convertibles. GM referenced
the nickname to the hard-working character you might find in the
heart of America. "Billy Bob" perfectly referenced the FRC's that
hit the streets and tracks of the USA with high performance.
