1971 Lincoln Continental Mark III in MENOMONEE FALLS, Wisconsin

Vehicle Description

1971 Lincoln Mark III

460 Engine

C6 transmission

I have had this car for about 13 years. Came to me from Florida.

Runs great and drives comfortably.

Since I have had this car:

New brakes all around

17” Riddler wheels

Seat inserts replaced with new matching vinyl and driver’s seat foam rebuilt

New carpet

Engine with new gaskets and detailed.  Dime size leak of oil when sitting for several days.

Radiator re-cored

New transmission

New steering box and rag joint (steering now responsive and more tight)

Replaced cracked exhaust manifold

Fixed steering tilt gear (a common problem)

Updated radio and new speakers.

I added shoulder belts to the rear.  This install of course is not DOT/NHTSA approved.  While I feel they are safe and add protection for my kids that used to ride in the back seat, I need to say they are not approved, and buyer uses at own risk.

Paint shines.  Had minor quarter panel damage from car being scraped against in driveway a few years ago and fixed.  Repair turned out better than I thought it would with no signs of repair.  A few bubbles in paint behind rear tires, but no visible rust.

The roof when I got it had a tired vinyl top. I removed this and decided to try my hand at painting the roof.  My thought was if my paint job didn’t turn out, I would simply put another vinyl top on it.  Roof was in good condition.  I cleaned out the filler from the factory at the sail panels and reworked the area with new filler.  There is ghosting and a few bubbles now seen in that area.  I am confident that this is from the filler and not actually rust/rot.  Also some bubbling along the trunk lid edge.

Chrome and stainless are presentable.

Driver’s window doesn’t seal completely.  I’ve tried adjusting it, but very challenging. An old school mechanic may have luck with it.

Interior shows very well.  Seats are in great condition after repair as noted above.

Electric seat doesn’t move in all directions however.

Front electric windows work well.  Rear windows don’t work.

Driver’s arm rest is worn.  No cracks in the vinyl, but it does sit a little funny.  Very common for these cars.

Dash has no cracks, but a little warping noted.

Speedometer not accurate. Combination of new transmission and tires.  I never took the time to change the speedometer gear in the new transmission. Should be easy for a transmission shop.

Gas gauge stopped working last year.  Another common issue.

Driver’s side engine mount broken.  For whatever reason, this part is not remanufactured like the passenger side is.  I have finally located a NOS one which will come with the car.

This is not an issue if car driven as it should be, but if you floor it from a stop, the motor will rock which led to the cracked fan shroud.

AC doesn’t work.

Overall, this is a very nice, clean car which is reliable and goes down the road beautifully.

It is a beautiful car which I struggle to get rid of, but it is time for something else.

Please reach out with any questions or if you need more pictures or video.  Feel free to come see or have it inspected.

Would consider a trade for a 1964 Cadillac Coupe deVille.
