Paging Barney Fife: Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1961
Ford Galaxie four-door Town Victoria, presented in Mayberry squad
car livery. This Galaxie presents to a good driver standard
throughout; paint quality is excellent over a straight and solid
body. Chrome and trim show light patina; excellent grille and
glass. Equipped with a period-correct flashing light and two siren
systems, all of which are working properly.
No squad cars that appeared on the Andy Griffith Show still exist:
every season or two they were returned to the local Ford dealer,
repainted, and simply sold as used cars. But if you want a vintage
police car few are more instantly recognizable than one with the
Mayberry Sheriff insignia on the side.
The black and white interior presents well, with good door panels,
carpets, headliner and seat upholstery, save for one split seam on
the rear bench seat (a few yards of matching material are included
in the trunk). The factory AM radio and all instrumentation work
properly.
Under the hood is a 352 cubic inch V8 mated to a three-speed
automatic transmission; optioned with both power steering and power
brakes. This Galaxie starts easily and runs and drives well. We got
more comments, waves and smiles about this car than any in recent
memory, with Deputy Fife references outnumbering Sheriff Taylor by
about two to one.
