2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD 4x4 Long Bed Pickup
"The Silverado already boasts the best ride and handling balance in
the full size truck realm, with well controlled body motions, a
firm but not punishing ride, and relatively sharp steering. We like
the Silverado's new face, too, even if it's only window dressing on
an otherwise unchanged rig. The thin projector beam headlights are
standard on every model, and upper trim levels wear LED jewelry.
With the stacked headlights gone, the front end appears lower and
wider; it's handsome, even if cleaning every nook on the undulating
hood will require a step stool and the wingspan of an NBA forward."
Car and Driver, October 2015
For consignment, a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD 4x4 long bed
with a title verified 27,625 actual miles. As we write this, gray
skies blanket much of the East coast and temperatures are beginning
to drop. The "experts" are predicting a heavy winter. We'll see.
But no matter what, it's good to be prepared and this truck comes
with a Boss plow just in case the experts get it right.
Exterior
Even without the plow, this is an attractive truck is stunning in
Red Hot Red paint, and chrome galore including the massive front
bumper and grille, side steps, bed rails, and rear bumper. It's
also hard not to miss the stainless side molding and 18-inch wheels
with a plethora of space above them. They're wrapped in LT265/70R18
tires with a late 2023 date code, so that's one ownership expense
you can cross off your list. The red Boss plow in front shows some
use but is in very good shape and includes large spotlights mounted
above them, especially handy for those midnight jobs, and will be
accompanied by the cab lights on top. Imperfections on the truck
include a decent swirled scratch and a linear ding in two
parts.
Interior
Robust gray plastic door panels include plenty of storage and easy
to clean surfaces and once up, you'll be perched on high gray cloth
bucket seats with a center console that can become a third jump
seat, but when down, has three cupholders. Textured and rubberized,
the steering wheel starts the command center which includes a
concise instrument cluster with center digital read out while an
aftermarket Pioneer AM/FM/CD player takes up a good part of the
center stack and lights up in GM teal. Below it, knobs and push
buttons control the A/C and the plow controls are mounted nearby.
The transfer case selector is in the center console over gray
carpet protected by weather mats and the foam backed headliner
above is in great condition.
Drivetrain
Mostly shrouded by plastic covers, the engine on hand is the
venerable 6.0 liter LS V8, fuel injected and backed by a 6L80E
6-speed automatic that routes power to both axles on demand, each
with 3.33 gears and equipped with limited slip in back.
Undercarriage
Lots of surface rust underneath but we're not seeing any salt
induced invasive stuff nor any errant fluids. Meanwhile, we have
power disc brakes on all four wheels, and single exhaust running
through original equipment. Suspension is comprised of torsion bar
up front and leaf springs in back.
Drive-Ability
Sure, she's heavy, but that's the intent and needed to push snow
out of the way, (for you sunbelt denizens, snow is heavy!). The
truck has plenty of power, however, and springtime drives, without
the plow, might even be fun. This well maintained, low mileage
truck operates as it should and we need to clear some space in the
mall for this big rig. While Classic Auto Mall represents that
these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we
cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of
your purchase.
This is a great find if you have a long driveway and end up paying
the plow truck every year. Or if you're looking for a business
opportunity, this seems like a reasonable investment. In the 70's,
we were told the ice age was coming. Well, it never happened, but
we are due for a good winter, and maybe the brainiacs at the
Farmer's Almanac and the groundhog in Punxsutawney will deliver a
profitable year for the snow removal industry.
